Makes me curious as if the roller is rolling or if the roller is locked and the room is sliding on top of this one.

Noticed the same plate distortion, same place last month. Distortion is so deep it has pulled some of the plate mounting screws loose.

Looking at the A.C.E.

Looked at an ACE the other day and it looks great. If I go used what year and model do you folks recommend. Looking for something 30 feet or less.

On a used model what should I loo out for that might be a problem.

I also noted some issues with the suspension. What should I add?

Thanks and have a great 2017

My 2 cents worth:

Depends on the model you want, the 29.3 first came out in 2015. Not sure but I think the first ACE models came out in 2012.

To me condition is more important than age. A well maintained coach can be better than new in some ways. If the used coach has the "bugs" worked out and some aftermarket additions.

I can only speak to the 2015 29.3, not having owned any other models.
There are not any defects that I would classify as a "no buy" for the 29.3.
The two biggest issues for me are the single air conditioner vs two, and the black water tank setup.

Operating all equipment and features is important on a used RV. If it is your first RV, try renting the model you want first if possible. At 5 years and beyond you may have issues with batteries and tire aging. However, if the price is right these can be replaced if needed.

Ok to buy:

1. 5,000 miles per year

2. 200 generator hours per year

No buy:

1. Any coach that was not stored under cover.

2. Any coach used for rental.

Chassis/Handling upgrades:

1. Tire inflation, set to name plate ratings to start with 0$ if you do it.
2. Cheap Handling fix. 0$ if you do it.
3. Track bar to rear axle if 1 and 2 are not enough for you. $700 if you do it.

I have the 16 29.3 and I added;
Installed Blue Ox TT2400 TigerTrak
Hard-Wired Electrical Management Systems
Installed a map light for the passengers seat
Installed a map light for the driver seat
I installed an outlet up in the drop down bed area
I sprayed a rubberized undercoating under the unit
I installed a light under the hood.
Added front speakers
Added vent covers to three vents

I'm not sure about the a/c, I am looking for an inexpensive fix to make it cooler in summer.

Thanks for the info

Thanks for the info, it really helpful.

What was the issue with the Black tank hook up?

They say it has a max. towing capacity of 8,000. Is that true? seems like every other model is limited to 5,000lbs.

Did early models have a raised bedroom?

All 29.3's came with overhead bunk in driver's area.

2015 29.3 hitch capacity is 5,000 lbs. I see the Thor website lists 8,000 for the 2017. Gross combined weight rating is still 23,000. Gross vehicle weight rating is still 18,000. I guess the actual tow capacity depends on how much you load in the coach. Regardless of the tow capacity you are limited to 23,000 total. Maybe the hitch attachment has been beefed up on new models.
5,000 lbs will handle most cars that people tow. 8,000 would be better even if towing a 4,000 lb vehicle as it would take 3,000 lbs more stress from road hazard/conditions before failure.

The black tank is very shallow where the commode drops into it. The commode is prone to clogging or "teepee-ing" at the drop into the tank. Can be flushed out with wand if it happens. Not a major concern but can be a nuisance. I am a tinker nut, so I may modify the tank/drop to make it flow better. That mod is still in the concept phase.

An option I would have liked to have had is dual A/C's with larger generator and 50 amp service. The Forrest River FR3 has this option now. It is similar to the ACE but more expensive. The ACE is often referred to as "entry level", which relates to a lower price point compared to other models. I believe options on the ACE line are very limited to increase manufacturing efficiency and help keep the selling price down. Henry Ford figured this out a long time ago, "you can get any color as long as it is black".

I was taking that as a plus now I am not sure and will assume it to be like all the others. They even listed the Vegas as 8000 pounds and that is on a van chasse.

I was thinking of adding a 2nd A/C ??? I am also looking at the FR3, Winnebago Sunstar VU29 and a Vegus

Thanks for the info.

Rock Guard

Question for the group, has anyone added a rock guard to their 29.3 to protect your toad? What did you do about the generator exhaust? Did you go with the 20 inch?

Was reading other threads and mixed reviews on the hula skirts working.
but the protect a toad seem to work better.....
never thought of the exhaust ....will have to look into this one ...
hopefully someone will be able to shed some more light on this....
I was also looking at something to protect my toad car especially after the last two long trips...

on another note:
camping world just sent me a check in the mail for 35.00 for overcharge on the title. was kind of shock since it was two years since I bought it.
I guess there accounting department is backed up....

Removed screws from upper bunk deck that hold the mirror assembly top in place. These are found by removing mattress. Left the screws in place that hold the bottom of the mirror assembly. Placed a 2x2, tapered on a table saw (1.5" x 1.25" the length of mirror assembly), between the top of mirror assembly and the bunk bottom. Put glue between 2x2 and mirror assembly, fastened the mirror assembly to the 2x2 with pin nails through the face frame of the mirror assembly. Covered the exposed edge of the 2x2 at top of mirror assembly with a piece of casing. Replaced screws through bunk deck.

Also removed netting from one of the "pockets" in mirror assembly and installed a battery operated digital clock in the pocket.

Might be easier to buy another mirror, make a tapered frame for it, and mount on top of existing mirror.
