I really think it is a placement issue and not an Onan issue.
Our 30.1 was built Feb 2013. They sure enough moved things around. Propane is on the passenger side. Batteries/hydraulics in first bay on drivers side, generator in the second bay.
I sure hope the problem gets resolved for everyone, so far we are quite pleased with the build of our ACE. It is our first Class A, but we've had a couple of Campers and several Trailers to compare it with.
The bride does however want a raised platform for the passenger seat, AND the toilet, it does set high?

I will be emailing the Thor guy on Monday. I dont have his email at my home or I would do it now. Will post up his email for yall on Monday. His name is Scott Harris, I am convinced he is the only guy with a clue at Thor, or at least he does a good job pretending he has a clue, and he has always followed back up with me in the past.

I have to get this all worked out in the next two weeks. We are doing our summer trip to Wash. DC this year. No way is this trip going to work without the AC running.

We need to double team this guy, I will call him Monday too. I did the exact same trip this weekend, several long grades getting to Park City, same temp, same speeds. This time I taped my Genny door open and ran it. It made the trip and didn't shut down!!! Maybe the vented door does help the hot air get out??? I should have done the run with a remote temp gauge down there, would be interested in what the difference is between door open and door closed.

Dego and Hermosa, please do post what Harris' response is. He's also who I dealt with last summer. Like ya'll, our annual hot trip is coming up shortly and I'd really rather not repeat last year's A/C failures.

Please share for everyone, I personally can not see that taping to door open is any type of solution.
I know we have put Thor on notice about this matter but what else should we be doing? I can't see that we have any recourse on the generator manufacturer. If the vented door is the solution what about those of us with full paint?
Thoughts from anyone?

Taping the door open was a test. It's retarded I have to go to these lengths to get a freaking genny to work. Thor sucks.

Generator

Thor replaced my generator last fall. I ran it this weekend, 90 deg. It died again. Any attorneys? Class action law suit time.

Had they done all the other "fixes"?
Why did they replace the generator?

I wouldn't mind a used Marathon, they use the Prevost chassis / shell.

Looked at a new 36' Bounder yeasterday, really liked the layout and looks, but the quality in teh coach I was in wasn't an upgrade from what I have now.

Hope I'm to intruding here since I don't own a Thor product.

Are these generators air cooled or water/radiator cooled? Reason for asking is that I built my own generator compartment around a genset that is remotely cooled by a radiator which is exhausted to the outside. Air is pulled in under the floor, across the generator then through the radiator then outside.

Even if your units are air cooled, it may be possible to install a fan that will power up when the genset is running. Is there enough room in the genset compartment for a fan to push (or pull) fresh air over the unit?

The type of fan that may work can be found at junkyards. Takeouts from small cars that use a shrouded 12v fan to cool the radiator.

Spoke to Scott Harris today. He was very cordial and was very sensitive to my situation. I reminded him of the conversations we had last summer when I was on vacation driving around with no AC in my coach and how pissed off I was the whole time.

Scott told me that the main engineer who worked on this was out today, but would be back tomorrow. Told him at a min, I wanted a vented door sent to me. Scott informed me that they really did not have any, that internally, they came to the conclusion that the vented door did nothing. While I don't completely agree with this conclusion, I do see how a vented door MAY not help a bunch.

Scott said the latest theory they had was adding an oil cooler. I told him that I had that same idea a year ago, see my post #124 on this thread.

Either way, Scott said they could do nothing until the tomorrow when their engineer was back.

SSCARP, I did mention to Scott that if Thor did not make this right for me ASAP, I would sue Thor. Unfortunately, I spend about $400K a year in various litigation, so dropping a suit on Thor would take very little effort on my part. The key for us, and I am not 100% sure on this, need to look it up, but I think we need a minimum of 7 people to classify for a class action suit. It would probably cost about $2K to get everything filed, once filled, Thor would have to deal with this, as there is no legitimate defense that I can see for this issue.

Oil cooler with an electric fan should do the trick... its a relatively cheap fix. If it cools down an air cooled 911 engine, it'll work for a RV generator.

DegoRed, if you are taking name for a legal action put me down. Another couple of hundred to acheive a fix and if we win don't we get our legal back.
