I did order the pump, its sitting on my desk waiting for me to find some spare time to install it. Will tackle this project during Thanksgiving week. Don't expect it to be very complicated since I have already taken the fuel delivery system apart twice now. I know exactly where the splice is to install the pump. The harder part will be running the electrical for the pump.

Will update yall when I get it completed.

Any ways, the thing ran for over 40 minutes with the air conditioner running and the microwave on every few minutes. Found an obscure passage in the manual that states proper oil level and good spark plugs will prevent the unit from automatically turning off.

Good luck trying to reach the fuel filter.
Not sure if this has already been said since I'm new to the conversation. I buy my oil by the jug and use a hand pump since I cant get a funnel into my fill opening for the generator

Hey Davinger,

Had run mine at least two hours under stress every month just to keep it 'happy'. Never had any trouble passing that test in NC.

A few weeks ago I did take it down to the Gator Country to the Homestead Race... Boom - Lights out -- This problem repeated itself several times. I took off the Genturi (much to the Chagrin of my neighbors)... Was kind of embarrassing, but I told them it was a birth defect that I would be addressing, sorry. Taking off the Genturi helps some with the heat, but does not make for good neighbors....

ALSO After removing the Genturi - I found the CO level in the coach started to climb ... This is SO dangerous (and annoying) I actually stayed up all night to watch the CO level because I feared for the life of my family!!
I also have the melted door thingie. Wish I had found this thread before I went to Sunny Florida.

Best

Question? I see the 27.1 has the generator in the very back bay. Does this solve the over heating? The compartment door looks narrower in height than the ones forward of it. Does anyone out there have a 2013 or 2014 27.1 with this generator problem?

(the original cause of the heat problem appears to be related to locating the generator near to the engine. I doubt that the 27.1 will have any problems with the generator in the back)

install done

Went to disneyland in California. Weather temp was 60 degrees and the genset failed. It was only 60 degrees!!!

I installed the pump and some heat shield around the fuel line. I am finishing the electrical tomorrow… I am hopeful..

Keep us updated. I am still on the fence about this pump install. Looks easy enough to do, but would like more real world experience reports.

I have found that while parked running the generator creates a ton of heat under the "skirt" of the RV regardless if the Genturi is attached.

Once you crawl under the ACE, you find yourself in a small cave with the storage bays and side panels of the RV all around you. It basically traps all of that heat under there, which I believe complicates the issue with our generator.

I have placed a small box fan outside the skirt to blow cooler air under the RV. I can stand on the other side of the RV and feel the heat rolling out from under. Give it a try and see if it help any.

heat and sound wrap

Sanford,

I might wrap the genet like you did also. What kind of sound/heat barrier did you buy and use?

We had a number of things done to our ACE in the quest to get the genset working. The lines were wrapped with a heat shield, a small vent was added to the door, and finally the push pump was installed. Our travails are detailed in earlier posts. The genset worked without a hitch on a trip out to and back from California last August. We think it is a combination of all three that helped us.

Thor ACE 29.2 Generator

My ACE is back at the factory right now to get some of the kinks worked out. One of the biggest problems is the generator. It stops running on every trip so far. Was in Vegas back in June last year, 115 out side, generator wouldn't stay on for more than a few minutes, and then would take a long time before firing back up. Had to go play poker in the casino just to cool down.

Just got the work order back from Thor today. Going to pick it up next Wednesday and drive it back to CA.

They swapped the generator with the propane tank noting the cause for shut down was engine heat. Makes me nervous about having the propane tank right next to the engine right under my butt when driving! But at least my AC will work again.

They also replaced my door as it was bowed and melted.

Gonna be weird filling up propane on drivers side, but if it all works my family will be happy.

I do see one problem with swapping the generator with the propane tank though, my kids stay up late playing video games and now the generator in under the master bed window. If its too noisy I'll have to see about insulating the compartment.

So if your door is melted and your generator constantly shuts off, ask your thor dealer about swapping the two units and fixing the door.

Exclamation Problems with the generator in the back

Thor suggested relocating the generator under our bed compartment. Not only is it extremely loud, but the floor vibrates like crazy. The exhaust pipe now filters to the lounging area (where the canopy is, and where we relax, so noise, exhaust will now be a problem as well) There needs to be a class action lawsuit with this design flaw. Who is willing to join? I am furious after working on this mess for 8 months now. Everything and more listed on this site has occurred with our unit. Melting door, boiling hot latches on the dog house, melted wires, generator continually cutting out so we couldn't leave our dogs even for a small amount of time to eat or anything for fear they would fry. Purchased a temperature regulated fantastic fan that would go on if it got to hot inside, but the generator melted the wires that went to the auxiliary batteries, and so there was no power to the fan. We didn't find this out until we tried to figure out why none of our lights, etc. would work after everything else was a mess. Couldn't run the generator, and couldn't use the auxiliary...so dangerous and fearful for not being able to trust anything with this unit.
