They replace the entire door and frame. The door is rivted on the frame. So they apparently replaced everything.

The Thor door fix doesn't look bad, but IMHO sanfordturbo's looks better.

I agree, the fix/new door Thor installed does not look bad. Agreed a louvered one would look sweet, but I am with the rest, not sure how one could punch louvers in our existing doors.

When I spoke to Thor, I wanted a new/vented door, they told me that they did not think it was needed or necessary. So if they replaced sscarp's, maybe he was the test subject for this?

I agree, Thor told me they were not sending any new doors out and that it wasn't needed. Told me the heat shield and fuel line wrap was all that was required. I'm not sure if sscarp just demanded it, or if the other items did not do the trick.

OK, my heat shield arrived today. I am really begining to lose faith, maybe what Thor sent will work, but to me, what they sent will do nothing.

Here is the problem the way I see it. Had to crawl under MH to figure it out. On the back of Generator, there is a steel plate that basically sits/runs down the middle of the generator cradle/holder. The plate runs front of MH to rear of MH horizontally and is about 6" wide. There is about a 6" space below this plate and a 6" space above this plate.

To me, the simplest solution would have been to send a whole new plate that runs from the bottom of the generator all the way to the bottom/floor of the MH the width of the generator. This would shield the entire back of the generator from the heat. We could utilize the existing bolts (3 on each side & 3 on bottom), to hold this new plate in place. All one would have to do is unbolt existing plate, replace with new.

WHAT THOR SENT ME, is a 6" plate the will either cover the gap in the bottom or cover the gap in the top, but not both. They sent zero instructions, so one has to use the powers of deduction to assume how the want it installed.

It appears, the plate they sent goes on the bottom 6" based on the break in the metal and holes in the plate. HOWEVER, since heat rises, it would make more sense to install the plate on the top, also, the force of the road wind would force the hot air up as well. Now take common sense out of the equation, where would the break in the metal go if you install it on the top? Does not appear to be any holes that line up with anything on the top?

Cost was not an issue on this piece of sheet metal, the cost of a big piece vs. this small little one they sent is almost the same.

So why did Thor half [moderator edit] this? They also sent no screws, bolts, etc. to attach this with, so guess ill have to wing it.

I may just go down to my local sheet metal shop and have this shield made the way it should have been and send Thor a bill. Sheet metal probably wont cost more than $25.

Thanks for posting pics of the Thor proposed "solution". I am going to design and build my own heat shield this weekend. I'll be sure to post pictures and steps taken.

I believe the generator noise is ridiculous as well. I plan on using this stuff to dampen the noise level.

It has been used in car audiophile installations all over the planet, so why not use it on my ACE?

I don't plan on encasing the entire generator in a thermal blanketed sound proof box. I don't want to make the heat problem worse.

I think that a bunch of the DynaPad on the floor directly above the generator will help decrease sound. A metal plate on the back of the generator with a layer of DynaPad or DynaMat will insulate and block noise from scattering underneath the entire floor of the home.

Not sure about putting side walls around the generator at this point, but if I do build a "box", I'll be sure to let the generator heat escape out of the top of the "box". At least I have a frankenstein grate opening that will pour out heat and noise.

I know that Best Buy stocks rolls of DynaMat, but not sure about the "Pad" product line. They both have Thermal and Noise reduction properties, but I believe DynaPad has better thermal protection since it is designed to reduce high performance exhaust system noise.

In my case, the generator seems to run fine while stationary. It's when I'm on the road that the generator shuts down. The obvious conclusion is that the engine/exhaust heat is the problem. We all thought that the engine heat "shield" would solve this. It sounds like your insulation will have greater success than just a strip of sheet metal. Thanks to you and DegoRed for taking the lead on this and keeping us posted.

DegoRed, i received both items from thor today. I crawled under the coach and i have absolutely no idea how this shield is supposed to fit. It is longer than the generator and i can't seem to find any place where these holes line up, either on the frame or on the genny carrier.

I'll call Thor tomorrow, but i'm really disappointed with absolutely no instructions as to how this is to be installed. I'm also curious why we were sent 6' of fuel line sleeve, I can only see a couple feet of fuel line off the genny but perhaps it goes longer I just couldn't see any farther as to where it went(assuming to the tank).

Ok, I joined the club today. Ft Worth to Lake Ouachita, Ar. Temps started in the low 90's, but quickly climbed over 100. Most of the afternoon was 103-108, with a high temp on the DIC of 111. After 6 hours of running like a champ the Onan genset quit, showing code 36. Called the Thor concierge, got voicemail. Will call again tomorrow. Engine never worked too hard, but after 6 hours of really high temps I guess the genset had had enough.

Thanks for the info. I dropped mine off at the local Cummings/Onan dealer today. They are going to check the generator out since there is a code 41 stored in the unit although mine has the same symptoms as the rest on here where it has shut off after a few hours on the road when the outside temps are close to 100. i have run the unit in the driveway for as long as 7 hours so I really don't think the Generator itself has an issue.

Wow. Guess I should have searched harder on the Internet. At least mine is painted still. Those doors look good and are custom built to your specifications. . . As long as you want white.v

Yes they do look good. But, like yours, mine has the full body paint so I'm looking at doing something similar to your door mod although maybe a smaller cutout since I currently don't have the door "bubble" to deal with. Have you used it enough to tell if the mod worked?
