Anyone have a picture of the Step recall fix?

Please post a picture of your recall repair.

I'm curious to know if my steps already have been "fixed".

The thing is, my steps actually broke exactly as described in the recall, with the main fan gear support bolt shearing off.

Mine occurred during my maiden voyage to Fort Wilderness, on our very first night from returning from the theme park and placing weight onto the step I hear a snap and clank as the sheared bolt hit the Disney asphalt.

I paid a small fortune for a pair of pre-packaged Coughlin bungy cords from the Disney camp store for the trip home.

When I reached home in CA, the entire step assembly was replaced under warranty. It still works fine, but I'm curious if it's one of the newer steps that doesn't need the reinforcement bracket, or if it already has it. The Thor dealership that performed the warranty work went bankrupt and no longer exists, (McMahon's in Westminster), so I can't call them to ask.

The steps on my 2015 Windsport quit working in August. The dealer replaced the controller, motor, harness, and entire gearbox assembly. I had the same question as you - thought my new gearbox may already be modified - so went back to the dealer and asked. The warranty tech showed me a drawing of the mod and it definitely is not installed. The new part is a large plate that covers the gearbox, bolted on each end, and prevents the housing from opening. He ordered five kits that day - for my coach and others.

My guess is that you guys don't have the modification as it's just now coming into the parts pipeline.

Broken Steps

Here is pic of the steps without the recall!!! The bolt holding the gear in place shears off. The very next day that I called, the steps BROKE. Good news, I'd read this forum about the problem and had bungees at hand to hold them in place.

Also, the Thor folks are taking care of the step replacement with very little hassle for me. Thanks Tom Overton.

Thanks to the good people on IRV2 I had already ordered some 3 foot long zipties and used two of them when my bolt sheared...

LCI took care of it all, a few emails with pics and an emailed form witht he invoice where I paid and it was approved.

they replaced the steps as a unit and had a Mobile repair guy install it...

they paid for the steps, shipping, and an hour of labor...
LCI cuts checks twice a month and I should get mine after they print it on 2-16-16

Single step?

WE also received the recall notice for our 2015 Windsport 27K. Our unit only has a single step. Has anyone else received a recall notice for units that have single steps? I was under the impression that the recalled steps were two and three step models. Thanks

Our 2015 38RE was part of the step recall. Only issue is we literally just bought the rig and were set to take delivery on Jan 8th. The recall hit Jan 6th and since steps are a safety issue we still cannot take the rig off the dealers lot. We are told the parts should be here tomorrow. Let's hope. Meanwhile we have found and had many minor issues fixed while we wait. Dealer has been great about this (yes Lazy Days) and we should be good to go sometime this week. Fingers crossed.

Right before the Superbowl game yesterday, I finally had a chance to peek under my steps to see if they had the new bracket when they were replaced under warranty in 2014.

The good news is that yes, they did replace the entire step assembly, and not just the sheared bolt.

The bad news is that it still looks like Figure 3 in the pdf posted by bmfickl above.

So, I'm going to have to schedule a service appointment.

I wonder if Thor will allow folks to pickup the kit and install it themselves?

I am pretty sure the recall mentions double or triple steps only.

Here's what mine looked like when it broke
