Engine Programmers

Anyone have experience with programmers for a Ford V10? Internet search gives numerous vendors that all promise the moon. I basically want to remove the speed limiter without damaging anything, if torque or mpg improvements happen they are also very welcome.

Thanks,

Frank

Jon Brazel and Five star tune are worth looking at.

They are both vendors on this site with lots of satisfied customers.

Thanks for the info...I've seen a lot of bad press by other RV'ers on the Bullydog and other universal programmers. I have looked at 5Star Tuning and am leaning towards them because of the specific PCM programming but was hoping to get feedback from other members' experience.

I got the 5 Star about 8 months ago, very happy with it.

I have the 5star as well, so far zero complaints.

Not sure what Ford was thinking on their engine/transmission setup and design, to me, its almost mandatory to reprogram them both. The way these shift up and down and round and round, it almost drove me crazy. After reprogramming, shifting is so much better.

Good luck!

I have 5 star as well, very happy with it. Though I got the full tune, you can actually have Mike give you a custom tune that just moves the speed limiter speed to whatever you want and does nothing else.

You don't state the year model of your V-10. If its 3rd generation, you may get a little improvement but its about maxed out by Ford. Older V-10's can get a lot of improvement.

By speed limiter, are you talking MPH or RPM. The V-10 is a high rev engine to start with. It loves to scream.

I had an 04 hurricane that I used to tow a 7,000 lb race car trailer. I'm in Colorado at 6,000 ft so it could barely get out of it's own way and the MPG was 2-3 when towing. I installed the full Banks kit with ECM chip, TransCommand module, headers and full exhaust. A buddy helped me and we did it all in one day.

It made a HUGE difference in pulling power and the mileage improved to about 5 mpg when towing and up around 10 when not towing.
