Generator will not crank

I have a new ACE 30.2 with onan 5500. If I use the prime it will not crank. If I use just the start it cranks each time and runs well. Is prime flooding the carb?

On my 4K Oman I push the switch down to prime for about 15 secs then push start. When you say yours will not crank when you prime it do you mean it won’t turn over or turns over but won’t start?

Flooding would be my guess. I have not experienced this ... yet. Have not seen any posts regarding this. May be something to watch for on new units. Maybe the manufacturer is installing a more powerful fuel pump.

We grew up ( cranking ) engines to start them.
We used cranks on trucks and cars to manually turn over , crank to ( start the engine )
On our tractors we (cranked ) the
Fly wheel. To start the engine. To run.
Sometimes we called, fired up when it started.
We cranked the engine to fire it up.
Today we use battery powered solinoid s
And starters to ( Crank ) turn over ?
The engine to start, or fire up the engine.

My wife has told me that her car would not turn over ?
I know she means it wont , fire up.

When I ask her if it , the engine, cranked ? turned over ?
Or didnt fire up ? Start.
She just stares at me???

Cranks but won't start = starter engages and spins the engine but engine does not run

No crank = starter does not spin the engine

Flooding would have no bearing on cranking ability, unless the cylinder is completely full and the engine is "hydro locked". You can't compress a liquid.
