House AC runs on shore power - but not on genset

What are we missing here? The house batteries are all charged to 12.7v and the Onan 8KW genset indicates about 66 amps on both legs. And yet, we can’t get the house AC to run on the gen. However, it runs great on shore power. Your feedback would be greatly appreciated! Thanks

I am not sure what you mean by "Onan 8KW genset indicates about 66 amps on both legs".

If each leg of the 240 volt split phase generator output is 66 amps, then the generator is maxed out. It can not supply an additional 13 amps to power an additional A/C.

I suggest you determine what appliances are drawing so much power from the generator.

Agree. 66 amps times 2 legs is HUGE and very unlikely.

Yes, first step is to turn OFF and back ON the on-generator breakers.

Next (if you are safe working around AC current) is to remove the lid to the ATS and check for power IN and OUT of the ATS.

An 8kw generator is going to be limited to 33 Amps total at 240 VAC (less surge capacity).

I pulled the cover off the ONAN Genset, but no breaker was apparent. The coach breaker panel has nothing identified as "Generator". Our AC, micr, and receptacles quit working off generator, but work fine on shore power. Where is they magical breaker?

You need to identify what you are asking about...

On my Onan, the breakers are below the air filter and hard to see. There is also a control power fuse.

The coach breaker panel gets power from the transfer switch.

Hi - Tell us what coach and what generator. Then put the coach in your signature. That will get you an answer.
