How to replace the incandescent bulbs in your vanity light bars with LED bulbs
The incandescent light bulbs are hot and pull lots of current – a great opportunity for an LED replacement.Unfortunately, many light bar fixtures have sockets that are too tall for the LED bulb to fit. Here are step-by-step instructions for modifying the light bars to accept LED bulbs.
Tools needed: #2 Phillips screwdriver, Dremel tool (or similar) and cutoff wheels.
Parts needed: LED bulbs
1. Remove the bezel of the light and put aside
2. Remove the light bar from the wall – this requires that you unscrew the ground wire from the back of the fixture.Note that the standoff will come off the light bar and there are 2 lengths of threads on the ends of the standoff.Be sure that the shorter threads are used when you re-attach the standoff to the fixture. This was true for all 3 light bars in our coach.
3. Using the Dremel tool, and while WEARING EYE PROTECTION, cut off the bulbous end of each socket about 2mm below the bulb .I do this outside because of the metal shards and cutoff wheel dust.Test with an LED bulb to be sure you cut off enough of the socket. You should expect to use one cutoff wheel for each socket.
4. Reassemble the standoff and ground wire, and re-attach the fixture to the wall.
5. Install the LEDs and the bezel, and enjoy!
