I think what you have there is what I built for mine. The alternate inlet tube (rather than sucking water from the tank) is to put in a jug of anti-freeze to pump anti-freeze through the system to winterize. I assume the pump you are talking about is the water pump that's used to pump water from the tank for the system when not on city water. If this is the case, you could do as you're thinking. However, it would only use the "Jug" as a reservoir tank. It would not take water from the jug and pump it to the regular water tank. That said, if you had say 5 gal jugs, you would use them as your water tank, after your regular tank was empty.
