Question Looking at a Thor ACE 27.2, but...

Several years ago I read a lot of posts about problems with the ACE slide rooms, and some other issues too, but I haven't seen any recent posts. Has Thor cleared up the problems people were having?

We really like the 27.2 floor plan, but don't want to find ourselves in the dealer's shop trying to get the bugs worked out. Any comments would be appreciated. Thanks.

We have been very happy. 2 1/2 years, 10,000 miles. Lots of memories. Sure we have had some minor issues, but we have not missed a day, trip or mile because of a breakdown. Absolutely would purchase again.

We have 2014 ACE 27.1 and have about 15,000 on it. We really like it but saw the new 27.2 at a RV show and with the extra slide, it looked so much bigger than ours. Just can't do the up grade now.
It runs great, especially After I got the front aligned at a truck tire place. It had a little toe out which caused it to wander all over the road. It is under the max weight when completely loaded so I took out a few PSI and it softened the ride.
Other than that, haven't had any major repair problems with it. Just recently the Jensen radio/cameras went out intermediately and every time I want to take it to get repaired it starts working again.
After reading this and the Thor forums, it looks like repairs are a major problem with all entry level rv's. if you have any mechanical skills any minor problem can be corrected.
Also I downloaded all the manuals and videos on everything that's in it. The antenna, fridge, stove, awning AC, water heater etc. if anything is not working correctly you can look at all of the manuals and look for a minor thing that makes it work again.
Have fun with any one you buy.

So one thing I noticed between the 27.1 from 2016 and the 27.2 from 2017 is that the 2017 has a major lack of closet/drawer space. Though I know that with the 2016, they wanted to eliminate the L shaped sofa/dinette, at least it folded out to a full sized need. The 2017 has the sofa and dinette but I don't know many people that would be able to sleep on either. Am I wrong in my observations?

Storage from '16 27.1 to '17 27.2

I just joined this forum to research the exact question asked. I am probably going to buy the 2016 27.1 because it is more appropriate for daily living.

Thumbs up

I love ACE and had very few issues with my first brand new model so I just purchased the 2017 Thor ACE 27.2 at the Seattle RV show this weekend and traded in my 2012 ACE 29.2 and yes I did notice a difference in less drawer and kitchen counter space but I loved this floor plan so much and all the newer upgrades so to me it was worth it. I did have slide out problems with the 2013 29.2 where only one side of the slideout failed but they already knew the mechanisms were not strong enough to handle a full length slide so I was told they discontinued it and I ended up having to replace both mechanisms in 2014 with no help from them so I was not pleased but had no problems with the new ones so they have resolved that issue as far as I understand and this new 27.2 has two slide outs instead of that full length. Won't be picking up my new RV for about a week or two so hope I have the same luck with this new one because I loved my ACE so much!

So I'm looking at the 27.2. How did you figure out the price point to which you were willing to pay. I've been trying to do the research but can't seem to find an answer.

We have a 2015 29.3 that has a full length slide. No slide issues so far. One of the roller plates shows some deformation, refrigerator area. Have not seen any posts from owners with slide issues on 2015 and newer.

I did a lot of research and knew the average is to offer 25 to 30% off the MFRP and the one I purchased was $117.750 and I managed to get a great deal at just slightly under the 30% and that took several hours to get what I wanted and then I had my trade in with very low mileage to bring the cost down even more. Good luck!

We checked with on line dealers and several local dealers to get the best quotes on the model we were looking at. Waited a couple of months until the spring show in Tampa, we live in North Carolina. Were able to get the unit in mid seventies. I believe that manufacturers offer rather large rebates to dealers at some shows. That was first year 29.3 was available so they may have been promoting it heavily.

So after going back to the dealer and testing both the 27.1 and 27.2, I liked the 17 better. The L shaped dinette in the 2016 27.1 was just uncomfortable. I guess I'll be focusing on the 27.2.
