Jack,
Can you ask Mike Cody about the Mode button and it's function as it relates to our rigs? I am curious about why I'm at 1900 RPM at 65 mph and you were quite abit lower as I recall. If you can ask him if there is a reason for the difference in RPMs between you and I?
Thanks,
Gary

Gary,
I planned on asking about the "mode" buttom because frankly I do not understand what it supposed to do and when to use it. As I have stated before I see no change in the dash reading with this feature engaged.
Thanks!
Jack

Jack, when the mode button is on it changes the shift pattern in the transmission. It is supposed to help with fuel mileage.

I have noticed that the trans does not change gears as often with the mode button on.
I was told to turn "off" when in hilly/mountain country/city traffic. Turn "on" when on flat land or interstate travel. Turn "off" if changing gears manually.
I can't find anything in the manuals.

Tom,
Mike Cody (Camp Freightliner Instructor) stated that the mode button changes the shift points of the transmission (get you to a higher gear more quickly) therefore it has no impact if you are driving down the road @ 65MPH in 6th gear. Mike suggested that you use it only if you want the transmission to shift into higher gears faster such as stop and go traffic, i.e., city driving, stop and go when in a traffic jam on the interstate, etc. Mike said not to use it if you want to accelerate quickly such as an on ramp to an interstate. I have yet to find an occasion that I felt it necessary to engage the “Mode” button.
Thanks!
Jack

If you have any service that needs to be done or warranty work on the chassis, be sure to make an appointment to have it done while you are there. If you have work done there you can stay there in your MH behind the building. They have electrical hookups. I'm not sure about water. No sewer hookups but they do have a dump station.

As was said, the ""mode" button changes the shifting of the transmission. It can be programmed many ways but for RV use it just changes the shift points to lower the mph at the shift. It allows the engine to pull down to the peak torque before downshifting. There's only about a 200 rpm difference in shift points. In some instances, like rolling hills it can save some fuel, but on a level stretch of road it won't make any difference.
Now, with the Banks kit I find it much more useful due to the much wider power band.
