New Member with Questions re 1998 Windsport
Hello
We have been camping in various forms for years, tenting, pop up trailers, the last several years travel trailers. We are now taking the next step to a Class A, this is where the questions come in.
This will be a totally new experience for us. We have been looking online for months at different brands & models of used Class A & C's. We had so many different requirements my husbands were mechanical mine where living space. We made the decision to go with a Class A, for additional space as we travel with 6 dogs.
We are going to look at a '98 TMC Windsport SL which seems to have the interior I want with a 460 Ford powered with Banks Kit, Hydraulic powered slide, Hydraulic leveling jacks and not to big which makes my husband happy. We know we will have things to learn and that will come with time.
Now here is the question we know nothing about Thor Motor Coach, reputation, quality, etc. I would like to hear from people that have experience with this manufacturer and model.
Thanks for any information or experience you can share with us to assist us making a decision.

I'd check the Thor owners forum and post your request there.

Having purchased two new Thor class As, and from reading this forum on class As daily, I think all of the motor home manufacturers have serious quality control issues in manufacturing. Maybe the really high end custom coach makers don't, but I don't know that. Thor's reputation is giving a lot of value for a reasonable price. You can't put all the gadgets in and build quality too at a low price point. Something has to give.
If the Windsport is what floats your boat, go for it. QC issues would have been fixed long ago on the '98 you are looking at. Get an inspection done and review maintenance records. Good luck.

The WindSport was made by FourWinds back before the 2010 merger that made FourWinds part of Thor Motor Coach.
The brands that created Thor Motor Coach were all very good makers (Damon, FourWinds, Chateau, and Mandalay Luxury Coach) and that's the reason Thor jumped on each of them when the recession hit the RV industry.
The WindSport was a top selling model line and it's success means that it is still made under the TMC logo.
Owners of other brands will dismiss these RV's - but that is unfounded.
Like any used RV - a complete and thorough check is REQUIRED. The Ford 460 V8 is a big, strong, but fuel hungry engine, and will move the RV very well.
With a good inspection, this could be a very nice RV for you.
Best luck

That year was a different company, technically not, but it was. 2008 (bought new) owner here absolutely thrilled with ours.

TMH Windsport
One of the things that my husband was looking for was a unit that had a service record that this one does. We also figured that at this age most of the problems would of been addressed and it wouldn't cost a fortune to find out how we like a class A verse a travel trailer. Thanks for your kind responses.
