Oil change

Have a Thor a.c.e 29.2 motor home. How much oil does it need to replace for an oil change, and what oil filter do I need. Form dealers here in Shawnee Oklahoma will not touch the motor home for any work on the ford engine. Please advise. Thanks

My v10 is a 2012 (the motor home is a 2013), per the manual it takes 7 quarts of a premium synthetic blend 5 -20 weight.
The oil filter part number is FL-820-S.

I just changed the oil on mine today, sure enough it takes 7 quarts, I used Mobile1 5-20. (I bought 8 quarts so I'd have one with me should it ever need to be topped off).

Napa had a cross reference to a Napa Gold filter, don't recall the part number but it was easy enough for the gent behind the counter to look up, using the Ford part number as a starting point.

While I was under there I installed this Fumoto valve to make the next oil change a bit easier and a lot neater.

I change the oil in both the generator and the v10 yearly. I only put on about 5k miles in a year, so I go by time, not miles.

My Ford manual says to do the oil change every 7500 miles or every 6 months, whichever comes first. I even called Ford to make sure that was right, and they said yes. Since my MH is still under the Ford warranty, I guess I have to change it every 6 months.

I change mine every 5k miles. (5 is an easy number to remember as in 5, 10, 15, 20, 25, etc). I use 7 qts of old dead dinosaur oil 5w30 or 10w30 and a fram or pronto oil filter.

If you're not sure how much oil, when you re-fill the crankcase, start out with six qts, run the engine for a minute, check for leaks, then check the dip stick. You'll probably need to add 1 more qt to make it 7 qts..

If you overfill by a qt, not a big deal. But don't overfill by more than this.

Before starting, I run the engine for 10-15 minutes to heat up the oil.

I installed a Fumoto oil drain valve, makes changing oil easier.

Ford V10 Oil Drain – Fumoto Valve – 1999 Southwind 35S

When changing the oil filter, I use a filter wrench to knock it lose, After I'm sure its lose I'll punch a hole in the bottom of the filter to drain the oil out of it. After its drained, slide an old plastic shopping bag over the filter and unscrew it, no mess.

While all this is happening, replace the air filter, and scoot around underneath and hit the front end and u-joints with the grease gun.

All this takes less than 30 minutes.

If you don't have the owners manual for the F53 chassis Ford will provide you with one at no charge. You can also download a copy of the owners manual from the Ford website. Most of what you have been asking is in the Ford manual. Oil changes are very DIY friendly. WIX oil filters are high quality products.

I have yet to find a Ford dealer who will work on a F53 based mh. Some will do oil changes, many won’t even do that. I’ve had to find local truck service centers for mechanical work.

Look for a Ford dealership who is also a Ford Commercial Truck Dealer.( I believe Ford's commercial web site has a dealer locator. ) Most major cities have them and they have the facilities and equipment to do work on F53's including alignment.

Walmart FL-820-S oil filter:

https://www.walmart.com/ip/MotorCraf...L820S/16817361

Walmart Motor Craft 5w20 synthetic blend oil:

https://www.walmart.com/ip/Motorcraf...-Oil/173793753

My local Walmart carries these in stock.

I change oil every 3-4000 miles.

Installed Fumoto drain valve, makes it easier and less messy.

Made an oil pump out of 1 gallon weed sprayer. Use 10 lbs of air pressure to pump oil in to the filler neck.
Adding the new oil is the hardest part of the oil change for me.

Lube mine once a year.

Nice tip on draining the oil filter and plastic bag!

Love the idea of the weed sprayer. I am going to have to try that one. Worst part of the oil change is putting in the new oil. Thanks!!
