Replace Hurricane Chassis Battery ?
I need to replace the chassis battery on my '04 32R Hurricane. It looks like I will need to remove the headlight assembly to get the necessary clearance to remove the battery. Has anyone done this? Any helpful tips?

If you have 2 red heavy gauge wires on the positive terminal of the chassis battery, one may still be hot when you remove it. One wire goes to the starter and is not hot when removed, but the other one goes to the aux start relay or an isolation relay and may be still be hot when it is disconnected. You should disconnect the coach batteries first, then disconnect the chassis battery. Also no shore power either.
Remember, Negative first and last. Remove the negative lead first and reconnect the negative terminal last.
As far as removing the headlight, I do not know, My 06 Hurricane on a workhorse chassis has the battery in the lower middle, top of battery just about at the bottom of the radiator. Remove the battery hold down wedge (13mm socket with an extension) and lift it out.
Any Hurricane Ford Chassis owners out there?

I replaced the chassis battery in my 2005 32R (2004 chassis). DIdn't have to remove anything but the cables. It is a bit tight but came out fairly easily. Don't know if there is any difference between the 2004 and 2005 Hurricanes. Should have taken pictures but didn't think of it at the time.

Thanks Bob. It does look pretty tight between the back of the headlight assembly and the a/c hoses. I guess I'll give it a try and remove the headlight as a last resort if things are too tight.

Thanks. I'm on board with the cable procedures. On my Ford chassis the battery is on the left side behind the headlight and under the a/c box with a/c hoses routed over it. You are not going to just lift it out. Looks like it will take some creative maneuvering to get it out. Difficult with a bad back and a 50 pound battery.

If you have not already bought the battery. Maybe purchase one from Advance or Auto zone or O reillys and let them install it for you.

Yes that would be a last resort. I'm pretty stubborn about letting other people work on my stuff. Usually ends up with two new things broken for every one thing fixed.
