Some info and a question

I have a 2011 31V with a 2010 chassis with a 2009 engine built to 2007 emission standards. It has a single turbocharger. A computer dump tell me this engine has never gone into the Regen mode. I have 23K mile on it. Very few miles in traffic. Alway running great with a 4,500 lb tode.

I got a recall Campaign #12923 stating i I need a computer upgrade to "prevent possible Diesel Oxidation Catalyst (DOC) face plugging resulting in excessive fuel dilution of the engine oil"

I watch the oil level for this problem, as all diesel owners should and I have had my share including VWs. I have no problem.

Question: anyone have this recall and what is your experience?

All computer updates scare me as that is usually when the problem arrive, after the update.

Hi CampDaven

I had this recall and 2 others in regards to the emissions. I had Rush Trucks perform all 3 as received and have not noticed anything different in regarg to the performance or anything else. Prior to the recalls I did have a problem with the regen warning returning from a trip it about drove me and my wife crazy.

I took the MH to Rush and they said it was a broken wire and not a regen issue. Have not had a problem since.

How do you do a computer dump?

Dennis

Allison requires filter change an 10K miles. Keeps it in warranty.
Shop techs can hook up for computer dump. Havent had a need for it.

My shop did not charge for the computer dump. It has about a 100 items, some very interesting. total miles, fuel used, setting for governor, any fault experienced and at what mileage. Also very important, the soot load (condition) of the Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF)

Blown turbo hose

We picked up a 2011 Serrano in Florida a month ago and started traveling back to Colorado. Among a host of problems that erupted, the turbo hose gradually worked loose (creating unbelievable noise in the driver's compartment) then finally blew off. Unfortunately, I didn't know that's what happened (and neither did the Good Sam tech adviser with Roadside Assistance), so the coach was towed 67 miles to the nearest MaxxForce7 service center. Long story short, I'm learning more and more about this coach every day, and while I love the floor plan and the way it drives and rides, I've come to respect the notion that the Serrano may have more than it's share of issues. It's in the shop now having the hydraulic pump for the leveling jacks replaced. Thank goodness we bought an extended warranty!

Sorry to read of your troubles. Someone else in here had that problem, I'm sorry I can't recall who but you can search for it. If I'm not mistaken there is a fix available for it. It is not an unknown issue for some rigs. I have not had the Turbo hose issue but I have had the Pump problem. That is a Lippert issue. The seal between the electric motor and the Hydraulic pump was all wrong and allows the fluid to bleed into the electric motor. This of course ruins the motor and valves. It's an easy fix, the whole power pack needs to be replaced, but what a PITA.

It's not much info, but I hope it helped in some small way.

Yes, not Thor issues, supplier issues. I had some cosmetic issues (Thor) easily fixed, and the few others were supplier issues common with other manufacturers.
Just sayin....

I am the former Serrano owner that had the blown turbo hose issue. Another reader provided the link to my previous thread as to what was done to fix my issue. The last fix that lasted until I traded for my current MH required cleaning the inside of the hose and the metal pipe really good and use the referenced gasket sealer on the pipe and hose. Allow it to cure for 24 plus hours before starting the engine.

Good luck!

I looked at all the postings and downloaded the pictures too! Thanks so much for the tips! I have many other issues that are being addressed by K&C RV in Longmont, Colorado, but this one I believe I will have my diesel mechanic in Estes Park look into.

MPG

I have a 31V the engine is a 2009 the chassis is a 2010 the RV is 2011. The 09 engine has a single Turbo and is compliant with 07 emissions. If you have 2010 up engine you have two Turbo and is compliant with 10 emissions. Usable HP is the same. I tow a Jeep Grand Cherokee, 4,800 lbs. wet.

Want 12 MPG? Don't drive over 60 MPH. This is very important, accelerate very slowly. Try to lock in at 1,500 rpm and don't move the RPM's around.
