Slide out Topper

Anyone tried to tighten the slide toppers?
Our main slide topper sages to the point that water (rain & ac condensation) pools on the top.

You can add tension to the torsion springs. Depends on what model you have as to how you go about it.
They are only supposed to have so much tension on them to begin with.

If your topper does not have a metal wrap as maybe your main awning the topper will flap if loose.
Here is some instructions to tighten and link to replace or add awnings.

Here is another if spring replacement needed.

All my awnings & toppers have the metal wrap, no flapping awnings and no unwrapping while traveling down the roadway.

If you don't want to mess with the tension you could set a beach ball under it to take up the slack.

With mine Tom I have come to the conclusion that I just have to empty the water off it when it rains using the awning pull rod, I use the round end and put it over the awning stop that is pointing straight out when the slide is out and push it up allowing the awning to sag and the water to run off the back of the topper, then I push it up and down a couple of times to get the remaining water off. I have read, posted threads, and studied up on this subject, from pool floties to beach balls shoved under the topper, what I described is what I found to be the easiest for me. When you look at higher end Coach's that are taller, where the toppers are mounted to the Coach higher to give the topper a real slope or angle for water run off is the only solution for the near flat toppers. Till I can get closer to retirement and acquire one of those taller Coach's with the slide topper's installed properly...... I will continue to m.t. mine with my little rod after it rains......

Wish I knew how. Carefree does not return calls.

Tom,

We have a 33.1 and after our big slide tracks were replaced I noticed our topper didn't tighten when we extended the slide. It rained and we had water laying in the topper, I noticed another RV had put the soccer balls under, not what I want to do in case I forget to remove them!
Long story short After we moved to another RV site the topper was tight so I am thinking maybe they are self tightening.
Just my observation.

Bill

Once it stops raining (if ever) will cycle slide to see if that works.
Thanks

They are not self tightening. You have to tighten yourself. Loosen from slide mounts, tighten, remount.

Tom,

I just reviewed the installation instructions found on the Carefree WEB site, carefreecolorado.com and they briefly touch on adjustment. I had my topper changed at Thor because it was starting to rip. For a short time it remained tight but over time with water sitting on the topper it has stretched and I need to dump the water prior to retracting the slide. After reading the Carefree installation manual I may attempt to adjust it myself.

Thanks!
Jack

Let me know how it goes. I went to the website. Didn't see anything on adjusting.

Since no body wants to say what model they have, hope this is it:

There is no "retensioning" manual. It wasn't tensioned right the last time it was done, plain and simple. Or, it was right, and that's as good as it'll get.
