Slide Room Problem

I'm working on a 2008 Thor Mandalay with a full wall slide curbside. About 2 months ago the slide was totally inop and I replaced the controller. It's Equilizer part number is 00-10022-000. The slide worked great two times. Now, it will go out but when you try to retract, the motor/pump runs, it moves about 2", then the motor quits and the locks extend.

I did notice that the front lock isn't fully opening and isn't hitting the limit switch. FTR, I can move the wire from the genset slide solenoid to this room's solenoid and make the room close but with the lock hanging out about 3/4" I fear damage to the slide seal and/or coach wall.

I've searched Equilizers website for help and most all their support stuff deals with leveling. The Equilizer system (pump & motor) part number is S103T-5076.

Any help is greatly appreciated. It's a 45' coach and I have the VIN if you need it.

My previous coach was a 2008 Mandalay 43A, and we occasionally had slide problems that sound at least partly similar. It's been a few years, but as I recall, the symptom was as you said -- slide would travel partly in, then stop and locks deployed prematurely. We had it happen more often on the streetside slide. In any case, I traced our problem to the sensors under the slide (in the frontmost storage bay under each) that should have registered when the slide was all the way in. The sensor was a thin plunger-type switch, maybe 3 inches long, that would open (I think) when the slide reached the limit of its inward travel. Because of corrosion (especially on the streetside one, which was located in the propane tank bay, and thus exposed to road spray), the switch would get a little "dirty" and think it was open when it wasn't. When this happened, all I had to do was work the switch by hand a few times to clear the contacts of any rust or dirt, and then it would work. I think I may have also found some loose connections in the wiring to that switch on one or both sides.

Good luck!

Mike, thank you very much for your reply. When I replaced the controller a couple months ago the pin switch (full closure) was functioning properly. I'll certainly check it again though. That room also has a door that must be full open to hit a switch and it is functioning properly. It's a hallway door. I can't figure why the lock'ems aren't both fully opening. ???

Ray, I'm trying to remember -- I do think I had a problem at some point with the locks on the other slide getting out of sync, but I don't recall how we solved it. That may have been one of the times I took the coach to factory service in Elkhart, and they took care of it.

I'm not sure how critical the slide locks are anyway -- I note that my current coach doesn't have any on the full-wall slide, and it never shifts in transit. You could probably rotate the locks out of harm's way, and see what happens.
