Still looking at the 27.1 ACE and the Axis24.1

Hi, we really like both the short ACE and the Axis. Did any of you that own either of these rigs look at the FR3? How does it compare to both the ACE and the AXIS? Thanks

We have a '15 Axis. We did look at the FR-3 and the short ACE and liked the floor plan and the quality of the Axis much better than either of the others. Reading here and other forums, we found most Thor units to have quality issues. The Axis, however is made in a factory separate from other Thor units and seems, to now, to have the best Thor build. We read of negative of build with the FR3 as well. There are many posts and even individual threads on the Thor Forum site abotu the Axis and Vegas. My wife and I absolutely love our Axis and most other Axis owners seem to as well. We came from an Airstream Interstate 3500.

Do you find a great deal of air and engine noise with the Axis/Vegas at highway speeds? We took one for a test drive and we could not hear the radio at all...way too much noise. I wonder if this is typical or not.

My wife and I have not noticed noise at all. We bought an Axis after selling an Airstream Interstate 3500. The diesel in that unit had more noise than the Axis.

Axis/Vegas owners have a thread here:

Axis/Vegas Mods...1,2,3 Go. - Thor Forums

You might check out post 116 and see what someone did to muffle noise. There are many other Axis/Vegas mods there too.

There seem to be more ACE complaints than for the Axis.

We have an Axis, and we actually think it's quieter than our former Class C Sprinter. We do have a squeak coming from somewhere near the windshield bottom on the passenger side, but I usually forget about and stop noticing it. Hopefully, we'll be able to figure than one out. It is a comfortable ride, as well.

It does seem that there are far more complaints about the Ace than the Axis. Apparently, they come from different factories?

The one thing I have noticed, noise-wise, is that the furnace on the Axis is the loudest we have ever had. I've not seen anyone else mention this, so perhaps it is just our unit.

All in all, we are really loving our Axis and have had very few issues.

There is going to be 5 times as many complaints about ACE's than Axis' for obvious reasons...there are at least 5 times as many (if not 10) on the road.
Also, one cannot hear the stereo in the ACE without maxing the volume. There are no speakers above the cockpit.
This is an easy resolve though by installing speakers either in/on the dash or by placing bookshelf speakers and an amplifier on the floor as I did.
