Getting ready to set up my Focus for towing with an ACE 29.3 and would be very interested to hear other opinions on what equipment to use,(tow bars, braking systems etc.) Kinda confused, especially about brake systems, any replies appreciated. Thanks,Ed D.

Brake system: RVI brake https://rvibrake.com

Tow bar: roadmaster falcon 2 Roadmaster Inc. - Tow Bars, Braking Systems & RV Accessories

TPMS (tire pressure monitor) TireMinder® TPMS - The #1 Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) in America - Minder Research Inc.

This is what i've had for several years now and have been happy with it. There are many others who i'm sure will help with your decision.

if i hade it to do over again i would get the newer RVIbrake 3 that incorporates the TPMS.

Towing

I had a tow package put on my rig and we got all set for our 3-week vacation. The package works very well, now for the but. In the Ford Escape manual, it says the vehicle can be towed but you have to stop every hour and run through the transmition. Well, we did as instructed and just outside of Las Vegas we blew the transmission we called up Ford (under warranty) thank God. and they had to replace it. they replaced it with a rebuilt and IT blew a week after we got home. Both dealerships said yes the manual does say that but you should have put in a transmission pump. With the third transmission, we are now too scared to tow anymore. Just something to think about.

We tow 2013 focus w a blue ox tow system. Very easy. We did not install a brake system. Please don't flame us over this, but no issues at all.

We haves towed our Ford Focus for a few years now.

Ford has put a 10 yr warranty on the transmission as they are having issues.(nothing to do with towing) just ensure you do the proper setup for towing (ie ignition on, then brake pedal, shift to neutral keeping foot on brake until you see the "Transmission ready " message cycle. And finally disconnect the battery.) .

I would suggest some sort of rock guard, because the vehicle is so low, ours has taken a real beating, replaced one fog light already.

Cheers

I use the same equipment except for the TPMS. I use the tire-safeguard.

Here the procedure I use to setup for towing

1. Setup tow bar.
2. Get in car, turn ignition key on, put in neutral. Wait for transmission ready on display.
3. Leave driver door open. lock doors using key fob.
4. disconnect battery.
5. Remove key from ignition.
6. Setup braking system.
7. Shut and lock driver door using key. Check all door in ensure they are locked.
