Many paint stores can match stain as well as paint, or so I've been told. I've not seen the big-box stores do it, but but a good, dedicated paint store should be able to.
Maple or alder is usually used when cherry color is wanted, but you don't want the wood to darken over time. Besides, staining over real cherry is a sin, or at least it should be!!! There is nothing more beautiful than hand-rubbed oil over real cherry.
It's unlikely your cabinets are cherry if they are stained. Cherry is really expensive and there is no way to stop the darkening over time.
Good luck,
Randy
