Fuel mileage for Maxforce 350
okay everyone, what are you really getting for fuel mileage? We have 17,815 miles on our 13 Monaco Knight 40' PDQ towing a 2012 Chevrolet Colorado 4X4 weighing 4500 lbs. We have averaged 7.5 miles per gallon. People on the forum have been pleased with there fuel mileage. Okay, what is it? We were told a regen will use 6-8 ounces of diesel per episode. We are not happy with the mileage. International in Sacramento said we should be getting 11. I would be happy with 9 or 10. Walt

Whoever told you a 40 motorhome towing a pickup would get 11 mpg has no idea what they are talking about.
My 36' Knight towing a Grand Cherokee gets about 7.5 in the not so flat roads and almost 8.5 where it is flat. Your 7.5 sounds good. My old 34' with a little 5.9 Cummins got 11 once, flat roads and not towing but usually was around 8 average.

So far with our Diplomat 43DFT is averaging 7.8 according to the on board computer. That's with towing a 4,200 lb. Jeep Liberty. Was hoping for a bit better but for the size and weight I don't think I can complain.

Just thought I would do a quick update, after a trip of close to a 1,000 miles some of it through the mountains although no real hard pulls on this route, we have jumped up 1/10th to 7.9
Part of this increase may be due to the fact that we did all of those miles without the on board genie running. Heck we had the dash heater running most of one of those days.

Only drive on roads that go down hill with a tailwind will improve fuel mileage.

Hey Trap, After 19,000 miles we have averaged 7.4 towing the Colorado the whole time. Hope your issues with the coach have been minimal. They will take good care of you in Coburg. Walt

Thanks Walt most of the issues we have are fairly minor other than the bow in the bottom of the curbside living room slide.
Sure has been a nice trip so far, everything has ran and pretty much worked as should.
Still not sure why we got that Warn Engine Light, cause it hasn't come on since that one time and we shut it off for a couple of weeks.

We are almost home in Florida after our 6 month western trip. The computer on our coach says we averaged 8.1. My wife has kept records for mileage and gallons for the whole trip and the mpg varies from 6.9 to 11.8 mpg. That is with towing a 2011 Kia Sorento on a tow dolly. We have concluded that the real difference in the mpg comes with weather or not the coach is sitting level when it is refueled. The tank goes from side to side with a fill-up on each side.If it is tipped slightly toward the pump while being filled it takes less fuel to fill it and if it is tipped slightly away from the pump it will hold more fuel.Take notice of this next time you refuel ,it does make a difference. Something else that will make a difference is the size of the fuel nozzle used to refuel . The larger nozzle at truck stops will put fuel in much faster and tend to shut off more quickly when full while the smaller nozzle at the regular pumps shut off slower and you are able to get a little more fuel into the tank before they shut off. Either of these will vary the mpg as will speed and weather you are driving over mountains or flat land. I think that the computer on the coach is more accurate to measure mpg..... Alan

After having driven 2400 miles from Alberta to Alabama, our on board Computer now has us at 8.1 mpg. Again this trip was made with virtually no generator use other than for an hour just to exercise it at a rest stop one day.

This is pretty simple, however everyone is at a different stage of their RV knowledge. If your generator is fed from the main fuel tank, you can't accurately calculate engine fuel mileage without subtracting generator fuel use. Your generator manual will indicate fuel use for different load, but assuming you are using the generator to run an A/C, you should subtract at least 1/2 gallon for each hour the generator runs

2013 HR 43DFT pulling a Honda on a dolly from Atlanta to Denver and back. Got 9.3 MPG. Coach had about 3000 miles before the 3000 mile trip to Denver and back. Just before leaving I changed to Rotella Synthetic and added Z-Max. Engine never ran above 204 degrees and stayed closer to 190 degrees for most of the trip until going up 7% grade hills.
