Maxx Force 10 405 Frequent Regens

I hate to add another yet another thread about regens but;

I have been plagued by parked regens seeming like forever.
2013 Holiday Rambler 43PKQ 30k on the clock.

While returning from Alaska I finally made contact with Chris I. the CES of Loose Engines. After several messages and text messages he determined that my problem is likely leaks in the Turbo system. So while I layed over in Whitehorse YK I disassembled my closet and tightened every clamp that was connected to the CAC and that area. Chris said that the low boost was causing poor combustion resulting in a lot of carbon build up.

I was able to make Prince George Truck in BC. This resulted in their getting the DPF baked out. Much better. Still had one parked regen between there and Flathead Lake MT. So I took apart the closet and reviewed the clamps and re-positioned and re-tightened all the clamps.

Next parked regen was at the ND SD border.

Next was near Mineola TV. But there were 2 back to back as well as 2 3251-2 codes, Intermittent ... ,

Found Pliler International in Shreveport LA. I think that they have found a route cause. Doser valve had malfunctioned and cleaned several sense tubes.

So my net is that the loose clamps was causing poor performance, low boost at starting, resulting in carbon build up and ending in the doser failure.

Best thing this latest service was covered under warranty.

Hope this helps others.

Sure that you got all of the gremlins worked out now. Amazing how something so simple can now cause such huge issues.
All that said that is some great info.

After the work the the mpg showed 6.9 in previous 100 gal . I reset the computer mpg to 0. In the last 150 miles it showed 8.0 mpg.

I'm not comparing anyone's mpg, just mine too mine.

Mine has averaged 7.9 over the last 25k miles so I'm thinking 8.0 should be right on the money,

We have a Max force 10 350. Did you happen to monitor your boost reading before you tightened the clamps? If so how much did they change after you tightened the clamps?

They don't regen while you go down the road?

The boost was 0 for several seconds when starting from a stop. The rpm's would have to build a lot, like shift to 2nd. It would hard to hit 38 under load.

Yes it does passive regen. But the tech said the doser valve was not functioning correctly and dumping a stream of diesel and not a spray of diesel in the passive regen.

Diva51, now jumps right to about 5 when I accelerate. Pulls 42 in a hard pull.

The following is from Chris Ingle, CSE Loose Engines, "Then you have a boost leak somewhere you should get about 3 to 5 lbs right off the bat when you take off and then should keep going up until it shifts into second.* It hard to verify with just the little access cover off.* The problem is when they tighten the clamps from either the turbo inlet (rubber 90) at the turbo or on the inlet side of the 90 from the big metal tube if the clamps are not in the correct position they will cock sideways and will feel tight with the tools but not be tight at all cause they are not aligned correctly and don't pull the clamps tight.* This will cause a slight hesitation off the line and will be slower to build boost as its leaking about 2 to 5 psi off all the time and will only build about 40 to 42 psi at the top end. *”

Was getting many moving regens. After the engine dropped a valve in #6 they found the DPF was cracked and had to be replaced. Couldn't locate a reman so had to get a new one, about $3,500 plus labor.

did you find loose clamps? Are you now getting 45" of boost on the highend? 3251-2 code is code for problems with the doser injector. I went through an entire year of regen problems, in and out of shops until I came across a shop where the techs knew how to work through the scanner codes and found that I had a MAS (mass air flow sensor) problem. required an engineer from the home office to reprogram my ECM not to mention replacing several DPF system parts. have only 1 parked regen in the last year since the repairs were made. still having problems with engine brake not working all the time. last service at Brattians in OR got them to at least pull codes and give me a printout of the diagnostic chain of repairs. they couldn't do any of the actual repairs because of scheduling, but at least i'm now armed with knowing what is wrong. now just need to find a shop that can get me in.

Maybe?
Clark's Truck in Jericho has found the problem. Cracked exhaust manifold.

I'll try to post more when I get to my computer. Hate to type on the phone.

Let's hope this one solves the problem, was thinking you we're all fixed before this but I guess not, let us know if cracked exhaust manifold is the problem.

Not so quick.
Clark's found a coolant leak in the intercooler radiator which is between the engine radiator and fan. Does anyone have a source to repair/replacement?
Source engineering couldn't help.
