White smoke

DW was following me the other day & mentioned that she saw some white smoke billow from the exhaust when I started after stopping at a red light. Should I be concerned. She did say it wasn't constant.

As i recall puffs of "Smoke" (or steam) under SOME conditions, like deceleration on a gas engine, are normal.. But.. This is a very old memory and has,,,shall we say... rusted a bit (Old = around 50 years)

Try googling it.

If the visible exhaust was soon after starting, before engine was thoroughly warmed up, it could just be moisture from condensation. Smoke often happens from turbo lag, as when accelerating from a start as you described. Here's a link to possible causes of various diesel smoke, but realize it's on a website selling additives.

Cost Effective Maintenance - Diesel Smoke tells YOU a Story...

This is a site in Australia that doesn't have our low sulphur diesel fuel requirements.

The only time I would be concerned is if you are also losing coolant level. It could mean you a bigger problem.
