8.3 isc horsepower increase

I was told at a shop that the 8.3 isc horsepower can be increased. He also said that the transmission can't stand anything above 450. It's a Allison 3066 according to what I can find out. I would like to raise it from 325 to 400. Anyone here had this work performed?

Your coach doesn't have the ISC. It has the C8.3 mated to 3060 Allison. Pure mechanical. TS has some performance parts than can boost your horsepower with a different fuel plate. More fuel means more heat. Get an exhaust gas temp gauge. Banks use to make a kit for the 8.3 but discontinued it.

Well, when you think that you know what engine you have, and find out its different sure is embarrassing. Thanks to usmc 1345 for setting me straight. I decided to call the local Cummins shop with my engine serial number. Was made in December of 1997, and it's purely mechanical. He said that since I was having low power issues, they could do a diagnostic for 250. He listed everything they would check, so I will probably take it in next week. On the positive side of things, he said that engine is very reliable and they don't see them very often. All good I believe.

It's what fellow RVers are for. My previous coach (96 Eagle) had the C8.3 300hp with Banks stinker kit. That motor is bulletproof and man would it climb those grades!! Let us know what they find. Could be as easy as a fuel filter or painful as a going turbo and maybe cracked exhaust manifold let's hope not Good luck and happy camping.

Allison 3060 spec's show 950 ft lbs and 300 hp as max, however even Banks (very conservative in their tuning) would go higher, but certainly not 400/1050.

Facts !
Some of the later 90's can be turned up Via the P7100 Fuel Pump but there are cautions to think about.
Mine is a 92 and very easily turned up from 300 hp to 450 hp without hurting anything at all which I did back in 2001 - Straight Pipe out !
No Turbo Lag at all --- I can pass anything on the road if I need to - Pulls hills 6 % with ease- --- I drive @ 65 or the speed limit all the time- Temps only rise up steep grades which is normal and right back down.

I have the same engine in my 5 ton military truck, they use a different injection pump but otherwise the same. If you have the P7100 Bosch pump, it's easy to get more power. As said above, just keep an eye on exhaust temps. The more air you can flow, the better. Might want to swap in a slightly larger turbo. The mechanical Cummins engines are very reliable and easy to turn up. Having it checked out by Cummins should be a good first step.

I didn't know there was a 3066 Allison, are you sure? All I have ever seen is a 3060 in a '99 coach I had and the 3000 in my '02
