B5.9 Air Compressor

How hard is it to rebuild the Air Compressor on my 1995 Cummins B5.9? The compressor will still build up the air pressure quite well, the only known problem is the compressor is pumping oil quite badly and eventually the air dryer will not be able to remove it. Thank you.

Rings and bearings are a pretty straight forward job. I always opted for a rebuilt exchange. Also, I'd recommend changing the governor at the same time.

Thank you.

Where would you recommend to get the rebuilt exchange or parts to rebuild my exixting unit? Cumins wants almost $1,000.00 for the rebuilt and I cn not find anything on the Compressor Parts on their WEB Site. Thank you.

I've been away from the fleet maintenance business for about 10 years now but we always had sources for rebuilt units readily available - Heavy Truck dealer parts departments, independent truck parts supply houses, truck and trailer repair/parts suppliers, NAPA truck parts. I do not remember a rebuilt exchange unit being anywhere near that expensive.

If you post the serial # of your engine I might be able to get the parts breakdown of the air compressor. I have the CEPC.
PM me if you want

Here it is. The only thing, it doesn't show internal parts so I think it is made by someone else.
Also your engine was built on April 15th 1994

Check out www.precisionrebuilders.com and give them a call. That was the only rebuilder I found while doing a little searching after a k identified it as a Holset SS191.

FYI for others, they have an air brake problem troubleshooting guide as part of their site under tech support.

I have looked on E-Bay, but I do not know if what they are selling is what I need. There are so many different Holset models listed on various WEB Sites that I am having trouble crossing the SS191 compressot tp the different part numbers listed. The most comon unit seems to be a SS296 series with several different flavers available.
