Smile C 8.3L Mechanical & King Cruise 2500 KC-2500 Setup

Gents,

My search abilities did not produce any helpful tips or pics. Therefore please consider. My 1995 Monaco Dynasty 40', 8.3L mechanical, KC-2500 Cruise Control unit, was disconnected at some point in its life. The seller simply mentioned that it "stopped working", and never investigated it.

In the attached pictures, it seems obvious that to create a "straight-pull" by the Actuator Cable, that it needs to be reconnected to this vertical pivot arm. The entire arrangement is slightly different than the King Cruise Manual because of this vertical pivot arm (side note, I think the PAC Brake is also connected to this?)

Please see my pics and offer some insight. I'm tempted to just "reconnect it", and try to perform the Calibration steps noted in the manual.

Any tips are greatly appreciated!! Thanks, Jim (new owner, 2 months

Have a 97 Dynasty mechanical Cummins with King Cruise & Throttle Control. Not exactly sure about your set up, attached is a photo of mine.
Cable from King to Throttle must be straight with no slack. Good luck.

Charles - thank for your picture! Its still a bit hard to see the details. However, I can tell that your setup is different than mine. Also - do you have the "air-control" version, or the spring version? thx Jim

I was wondering about your throttle set up ? Mine is the King 2600 both Throttle and Cruise Control.

The big issue now, Cruise King who was supporting these old boxes is no longer in business, so not for sure where we go next for repairs.

Had mine rebuilt by Cruise King last year, so hope it will last another 20+ years.

If your set up is Cruise Control only, I would hook it up and see what happens, assuming you could make it go to Fast Idle to see if it responds or at least mine does.

I have a King Controls Cruise Control with my Gillig chassis Air Throttle.

Below is the description from Gillig Manual.

Perhaps it may help you.

Hi - I'm OK with just hooking it up. However, I was trying to ascertain if the unit is "spooled-up", and I need to let cable out, or just connect "as-is" and see what happens.

Also - to try this, I have some city streets nearby where I can get up to 45 or so. Else, will need to get on the freeway. Jim

OK on the Air Throttle, was curious, as my King Control is both Throttle and Cruise.

On my King Control the cable is "pulled" or wound in to increase engine speed and relies on the two throttle springs to pull the throttle closed when letting off the accelerator pedal and probably helping the King Control to unspool the cable.

My guess is the throttle spool has adequate torque to wind or pull the cable in to accelerate, but relies on the throttle springs when torque is released on the spool to unspool, but just a guess.
