Where do you go for service for your Cummins engine, Onan gennie, Allison tranny and Roadmaster Chassis?

I'm in Southern Ontario and the choices are very limited. In theory I can go back to my dealer but they just took 3.5 months to fix house issues that should have been fixed less than 2 weeks, so I've ruled them out (when I had a Journey the engine warning light came on - this dealer doesn't even have the diagnostic equipment to determine the problem so I don't rate them highly for mechanical work).

I've also posted this in the Roadmaster Chassis forum.

HI Don!
I think you will find that very few if any RV dealers work on engines, trannys or gensets (other than a minor adjustment on a genset). They just are not trained, qualified or equipped to work on the powerplants. Let's face it....it's hard enough to find enough qualified RV technicians. Service on engines and transmissions is best left to the respective service centers. Cat, Cummins and Onan can furnish a dealer listing to make it easy to locate a service center. Now, that doesn't mean there is one close to your hometown but it makes locating them all real easy.

Barry, I've been chatting with the GM of Cummins Diesel Canada (we have a hobby in common and I'll be lunching with him soon) to try to identify a Cummins dealer that is "interested" in doing RV work. I'm taking it to a Cummins dealer Wednesday and will then know the score. This dealer does not handle "on the road" trucks at all but handles a ton of other products and say they like to do RV work.

My experience with "truck service centers" is that the mechanics disappear when a motorhome drives into the facility. They "hate" working on them.

RV dealers - sadly many are absolutely hopeless when it comes to service and repair.

Don

dleslie 125,

I have talked with a number of vendors. I have a contact list with an individual at Cummins that you can call. (Tim Kelly VP RV Business 514-344-0075). Tim is a neat guy and I think you'll find him very helpful.

Maybe you missed my second post. I"ve been dealing with the Cummins Diesel Engines GM for Canada. Had the service done today. They were good but the price was out of this world compared with Freightliner Gaffney in April 05 for our Journey annual service.
