Check Engine Light Came On
ISB 340:
Came up over Lookout Pass, I-90, and down the other side at 25 mph (maybe 35 at some points). The exhaust break and gear down held it pretty steady. I only had to stab a few times and that was when i was in 3rd.
Somewhere after coming down I looked ant the "Check Engine" light was on. I pulled into a fuel station and called Cummins. The technician was real nice on the phone. He told me to turn the key on without starting and stab the throttle pedal 3 times fast. That would reveal a blinking error code. Well, I turned the key on, the light was out, so the stabbing of the pedal did not work. He transferred me to the Cummins shop in Missoula, MT and I drove there the 50+ miles without the light coming on.
In Missoula, the Technician hooked up his lap top and the only occurrence of error was one (that is ONE) indication of EGR. He said not to worry about it, but if it had been 15 occurrences he would have put it in the shop. We came up Homestake Pass, and down and there were not further check engine light.
Just for reference.

Just for giggles check your coolant level when cold and level.

a k,
Don't know. He never mentioned a code, just that it was one hiccup of the EGR. Climbing lookout pass and then the down side at 25mph in 2nd probably overheated the egr. Might just have been that code.
I have since climbed and descended Homestate Pass and the light did not return. Tomorrow is US-191/287 and then 26 over the Continental Divide.
Brian,
Will do.

My ISM throws the same EGR code, in fact 224 times. They revised the ECM flash and raised the temp setting because of the fault warning. Nothing wrong.

I get the occasional Check light when descending steep grades. So many things are abnormal in that scenario, I have learned not to be concerned if it clears once I get back to more open highway. Temperatures go way up, engine is not burning fuel, exhaust is running through the engine brake, cooling system is not getting enough air flow, etc. Plus the coolant level indicator sometimes gives a false reading due to the tilt of the coach.
The tech gave you good advice - don't sweat a single occurrence like that.

Thanks all for the replies. Crossing the Continental Divide twice today and it never hiccuped. I'll be crossing it again tomorrow at least once, but a little lower altitude.
I did check the coolant level before departing this morning and it was full.
