Cummins 8.9 high exhaust gas temp.

2008 Newmar Dutch Star, 8.9L 425 hp Cummings.

Yesterday returning from Morro Bay the high exhaust temp warning came on.
Pulled over could not see or notice anything unusual. Called Paso Robles Truck Center to see if I could get in. Was only able to leave a Voice mail for service Never heard back from them!!!!!!!
So anyway I decided to take it easy and see what happens, I figured it would go into limp mod but never did. When we were almost to Paso about 28 miles the warning went away and never came back for the next 200 miles home.
I'm wondering if it went into regeneration and this caused it.
This coach is relatively new to us. Previous MH had a C-7 Cat. so I'm learning about the 8.9.
If it went into regen won't that be displayed?

Thanks
Bill

Cummins 8.9 high exhaust gas temp.

Yep. A regen. Shocked me at first too. My owners manual educated me.

That is how it indicates a regen.
If it flashes, it indicates the driver is not controlling the idle speed, steady just means hot exhaust pipe because of regen. Dies not inducate a need for service.

Do you do a lot of slow driving or a lot of idling?

Regards,

Dan

Just keep driving, and don't park in a grassy field during this period. This is all normal and the way this system works.

If you do a lot of slow low load driving, it will do this burn off more often. Hiway driving helps clean your exhaust system and the burn off will now happen as often.
