Cummins Campaign "Recall" on Catalyst

Look into this. I never heard of a Campaign until my check engine light came on.
Looks like it might be a costly repair after Campaign. My problem started just over 40k miles.
RV did run with no problem when light came on.

Catalyst replacement will be free or reimbursed. These type of issues are why I bought pre emissions. 75% of the issues with our fleet trucks are due to emissions sensors and hardware problems. Well pre particulate and DEF anyway. I don't want that on my RV.

My recall notice says I have 5 or more years to have it inspected. If I wait later I can get more life out of the original, then a new free SCR then. This article says it maybe caused by poor maintenance. I service often. Excessive idling is the hardest on this emission system.
The starter motor is accessible and cheaper than a SCR. I shut my engine down even for a few seconds.

I wasn't aware of the campaign, but I took our coach to Cummins in Forest Park GA for a NOX sensor problem. They told me about the recall and offered to fix it while the other thing was being worked on. Picked it up today and all seems good now.

I wondered why I hadn't heard of the recall - they usually send letters, don't they?

Regards.

Chuck

Its not a recall. It's a Campaign. No safety and manufacture self generated.

Campaign is from cummings. Someone said they had 5 years. My dealer said i had 45 days left on my coverage.

People need to check on this. took 8-10 hours (a lot of testing) and part was expensive.

Call Cummins at 800-343-7357. Have your engine serial number handy. I didn't know mine and didn't know where to find it - but called Freightliner's support line and they had the cummins serial number in their records.

You need the serial number for all things you call Cummins about, not just the campaign. I needed it to talk to them about my NOX sensor problem.

Regards.

Ser# will tell you if it could be part of it. But it has to be looked at. Cummings doest know what parts the the manufacturers put on what units.

The Cummins Warranty Campaign for replacing the SCR is C2112 and C2053-A as noted on the "Cummins Service Line Bulletin"

You can Google "Recent Cummins Warranty Communications Listing"*and then click on either campaign. C2112 is for the CM2250 engine designation and C2053-A is for the CM2350 engine designation.

The fastest and easiest way to determine if your model year engine is listed in the SCR campaign or any other Cummins warranty or recall campaign, is to log on to www.cumminsquikserve.com and create your account with your engine number. It is free and besides the campaign, it provides you access to owners manuals, parts schematics, maintenace and repair manuals and troubleshooting manuals.

When you click on the "Service" tab on the home screen of the Quickserve page up top, any OPEN campaign will come up on the screen in RED.

If you don't get the big red OPEN under the Status tab, there are currently no campaigns for your particular engine.

If you do, click on the campaign number on the "Service Line Bulletin" and in the body of the text, there will be two Excel attachments that A. Will show the affected engines you can scroll through by serial number and B. The Affected SCR part number and the new replacement part number.

The affected SCR part number is the bottom number embossed on the catalyst toward the tailpipe. (See photo) If that bottom number matches any on the list under Attachment B,
your SCR is affected and needs replacing.

Hope this helps.

Go to Cummins QuickServe,
Create an account, enter your engine serial# in the appropriate box. You will discover everything about your Cummins engine. Also you will receive a discount on Cummins parts.

My 2012 Journey is at Cummins now to get the issue taken care of, ISB 6.7 360hp. My local Cummins Distributer had the parts in stock. I received the letter from Cummins this past March, referring to Action C2114. According to the letter, Cummins will take care of the issue for free until 3/24/2024, so 5 years to get it done. They also advise that there is potential of DMV registration issues in the future if the "recall" is not completed. Although my rig has over 43,000 miles with no SCR issues, I am getting it done now, it was due for annual service anyway.
According to Cummins, this campaign covers about 500,000 engines that were manufactured between 2010 - 2015. Apparently the state of California (my state) conducted tests of the system with portable equipment and found that in some cases this SCR system was not doing what Cummins claims that it was suppose to do, hence this action from Cummins. The letter states "Your engine may be releasing air pollutants which exceed California and federal standards".

As required by the Warranty Campaign, make sure you get the "Proof of Correction" card and the label affixed to the engine area from your Cummins Service Center for validation.

They may be necessary to present in certain States that require emmissions testing for registration renewal.Click image for larger version

I had a Nox sensor trigger a code on a recent trip. Called Freightliner and decided to continue my journey. Light went out before I got home. Got home and took to Cummins who said the sensor was
bad. Costing $532.00 in parts. They found SCR was in campaign. Has anyone lost a sensor needing replacement or does the sensor indicate the SCR is not working correctly
