Cummins ISB ISC ISL ISM ISX?
What do these letters mean? We can't find a clear explanation on the website.
We are told we have a 275 HP Cummins Diesel pusher with a 6-speed Allison automatic transmission. Its a 1998 Coachmen Santara 37 foot
Thanks

Check this info out to see if it helps.
FAQ
There should be a data plate on your motor mounted on the timing gear housing near the fuel injection pump that will give you a lot of information on your motor including the serial number which will be needed for some parts at some time. Should also list the HP of your motor. If not and you have the serial number you can call Cummins and they wil be able to give you the specs.

Beeper, you don't have any of those. You have a 6CTA or "C" engine. This is mechanical injection and was later replaced by the ISC which was electronic injection. These started being installed in late '99.

I agree with DieselTech39, go on the Cummins website and input your serial number and you'll find out all about your particular engine. Same for the Allison transmission, it's good info to have for filters and parts.
All the Cummins engines you mentioned, ISB, ISC, ISL, ISM, ISX, are 6 cylinder engines (although ISB was also made as a 3.9 4 cylinder) Wikipedia has separate entries for each engine you list. If you're interested, look them up.

Beeper; You can go to your " User CP " left hand end of the blue line under your welcome message, and on the left side of the page go to " Edit Signature " and in-put your coaches info , and it will automatically appear below your posts , so you don't have to type it in every time.
As mine does below.

I'd be thankful you have a mechanically injected diesel. These older "Brainless" ones I believe are more reliable than these newer ones. with all their extra wires.

Mekanic has a point, when I was choosing a replacement cab & chassis, the choice was a FL60 w 5.9 BT or IH 4300 with 466 computer, decided real quick I most likely would make it home with the 5.9 mechanical. Still happy after 7 years.

Thanks guys, that is encouraging information on our diesel motor. The previous owner had 4 kids and they traveled throughout the US and Canada with no “big” problems. So we are hoping for the best.
