Cummins vs China

Well, my fuel shutdown solenoid has failed while on a current trip.

Cummins C8.3L mechanical engine.

Cummins has one in stock for $373.

Ebay has several identical items for about $60 plus $14 shipping from China.

Since I can start and stop the engine by wiring up the fuel linkage, I think I will take a shot on the Chinese stuff.

Has anyone done so and regretted the decision?

Mine is now failing occasionally too and I can assure you I'll go with anything other than the almost $400.00 Cummins OEM part for something as silly as a 12v solenoid that holds the fuel rack open or closed. Cummins has nobody to blame but themselves for these cheap chinese knockoffs making their way over there - $400.00 for a small.. SMALL 12v solenoid is proposterous. I would even consider purchasing a 275" pull cable and operating the fuel rack shutoff with that before I'd spend that much on the OEM part.

About every part on cummins and Cat engines are made in China. I've even seen on the cummins oil pan. MADE IN CHINA Most American flags are made there also. Just the way it is now, and for the past twent years or more. I'd go for it.

Cummins has one in stock for $373.????????

That's absolutely crazy!

I'd keep looking. Someone in America will stock that item for a reasonable price.

The chinese part plus a spare is a good idea. Maybe only 1 shipping charge?

I saw that too, I thought that was funny. My neighbor across the street was a Korean war vet. He was so piss, you can see steam out of his ear and smoke out of his nose.

Is this the part number you need? They claim to have OEM parts for Cummins.

i bought a few chinese made items - backup camera, display monitor, tpms for rv, and honda brake sensor for toad. with a corner of the price as opposed to oem's, all work as they suppose to for 2 years so far. the solenoid is not a rocket science i'd say it's worth a shot.

Can't speak for the for the Cummins part but I will tell you of my experience with the glo plug relay in my 02 F250. It failed this past winter in West Texas. Got a nice brand new MADE IN CHINA replacement (no others available within 1 hour drive-which I couldn't do). It lasted all of 4 months before it failed! Better to pay for the OEM part rather than get stranded somewhere. Made in China electrical is pure junk.
Good luck and safe travels!
