During startup, do you wait until engine light goes out?

When starting the motor, the engine light is on for about 10-15 seconds. Assuming the computer is doing some sort of diagnostics. Do you wait until the engine light goes out before you actually start it? I am not talking about the Wait light that illuminates when it is cold out. It is not so much of a big deal when first starting it in the morning, I am talking about when you may jump back in after fueling, or even shutting it off then remember you need to straighten the wheels.

Yes... wait till the light clears...

Yes, it is going thru startup diagnostics... like fuel pressure, safety systems, voltage, ECM communication, etc. Once it is happy with it's findings, then it is happy for you to start up. It is only a few seconds... it will usually start anyways if not finished it's process, but it is advisable to just let it do it's thing for a few seconds...

It is also going thru a pre-heating, in simple words, of the intake manifold via heat exchangers. (Old diesel Glow-Plug's vocabulary!).

We always wait for the Ready to Start light goes out before starting.

On days not cold enough to Pre-Heat the Engine, say 30-35F or so. I'll go thru two full Wait to Start cycles, before starting the engine. Below 30F, I'll go ahead and use the Engine Preheat. Though many wait until it's mid 20's or below. I always figure the easier that oil can circulate, the better the engine will be wear wise... As the old saying is, more wear of and engine is at start up - then at any other time!

When only the oil pressure light and low air light are lit , turn the key .

Once I rushed the system , the Kitty was not happy .

Had to shut down and start over.

Yes. The Phaeton dash had a little icon that looked like an Edison light bulb. Turn key to ACC, wait for that icon to go out, then start the engine. Lots of diagnostics have to go through their paces before an engine start with these beasts.

Spartan gauges will swing to max, back to low 1X then go while the calibrations are resetting. Mine used to swing fully 2X then and make a loud chirping noise during needle swinging until Cummins had to upload a new ECM program into my 1999 model ECM just to read the out-dated codes.

Just finished an RV safety and driving class. My instructor told me to definitely wait, every time I turn it on.
