It could be a bad injector. I'd get it checked by Cummins to be sure. Was the emissions test done while you had the Lucas injection cleaner in the tank?

I was not aware that DP'S went on a dyno for emission testing. What state? Most likely the one I live in..

Bummer - at a recent test here in NJ, the private inspection station told me that I was one tenth of a second for failing. They use the international test method here. The computer is hook up to the engine speed monitored at the crank dampener, oil temperature with a probe and exhaust obscuration with a probe in tail pipe. after the oil temp in reached, they they get a base line and then run the engine full throttle for five seconds, rest for 15 seconds and repeat full throttle several times.

They expect the engine to reach a certain percent of full RPM, have clean exhaust within a preset time frame. IF the engine does not reach the full speed and develop HP rating for that year - they fail you.

We will be moving to FL and they do not have emissions test there.

Lucas suggest that you can do a fuel injection cleaning by filling your fuel filter with Lucas fuel injector fluid and start the engine and run it a while. I have done it on our Newmar Essex with 500 ISM and I wasn't having a problem but just wanted to clean injectors. On this subject if you need to replace fuel filter and need to fill it before starting it and don't have any diesel you can use ATF. I have a diesel fuel and extra fuel filter which is what I suggest other irv2 diesel owners do.

I would suggest to go back and have it tested again or maybe another test location.

ISL should not need the filter prefilled. Just follow the owners manual instructions and let the fuel pump do it's job.

The OP is in MA.

CA does not even require emission tests on Diesel chassis over 14,000lb GVWR.
https://www.dmv.ca.gov/portal/dmv/detail/vr/smogfaq
The cliche' that CA has the strongest controls on consumers is often incorrect.

Safe travels

Yes fill both secondary and primary fuel filters. The Cummins seminars at FMCA rallies say to fill the primary fuel filter and then cycle the key to fill secondary filter on the ISL and ISC engines. On our 500 ISM there is only one fuel filter and it doesn't have a electric pump so you do need to fill fuel filter before installing.

WA requires a smog test on even diesel pushers. No trouble with our ISC 350 w/Banks kit. They just do the full throttle test, with a particulate measuring device every two years.

Arizona requires testing annually (unfortunately) and their limit is 40,---- we are at 2 but need to go in every year!
