Fresh Air Filter
Looking for the Donaldson P537448
prices are all over the place. Also some say Ecolite, what is that? How do you know your not getting one that’s been on the shelf somewhere in a hot warehouse fir a couple of yrs. What about Freightliner # or the Baldwin brand?

I look at some Donaldsons and in one photo it’s a galvanized can and in the other photo it’s a black can and says Ecolite?

I think there's only one (maybe 2) mfg of these filters.... I'm presently using the Wix, I had a Baldwin that you couldn't tell which was which.
In today's "climate" availability will probably be the deciding factor!

Mackwrench is correct
Parker/Racor is the main manufacturer and supplier to most or all of the private label brands.
My Cummins ISC uses Fleetguard AH8501 part number which comes with the Parker/Racor label with the Ecolite branding.
Yes, they use to be black, but are now bare metal. (see photo...just changed mine)

Fresh Air Filter
Not sure why I titled this “Fresh” Air Filter. I just noticed that. No biggy. Anyway I suppose I’ll just pick one and go with it. Age, I guess there’s no manufacture date on these or is it in the packaging? I’m thinking the demand is high enough they are are probably not very old. Prices all over the place so it makes me wonder about quality and cheap knock offs? So far the best reasonable price is from Find itParts. Even on AMZ the price will change on one in my cart every couple of hrs. I like putting change dates right on the filter itself too like Toribk did. Thanks all.

Vehicle filters are often made by only one mfr. Why tool up to produce a few hundred oil filters for a 1953 2cv ? Ecolite makes all of the air filters mentioned in this thread. There are no cheap knockoffs. Or at least I have never seen one. I think it is the metal can that prevents knock offs

Fresh Air Filter
Well some have been known to come without wire mesh that would reduce cost. Knock offs? There seems to be knock offs on everything these days though.

I have no proof, but it appears to me they stopped giving them a coat of black paint at the same time they began installing the steel mesh on both sides of the paper element.

I'm glad I found a "current" thread on air filters! I was looking yesterday for an online source for a filter. I only found a couple distributors and they wanted $28- $50 shipping. Ouch!

Wire mesh support for the paper element MUST be on the suction/clean side of the element to keep it from distorting as the engine/turbo pull air through it.
Some filters are made with wire on both sides to they can be used in applications where air enter in the CENTER and in applications where air enters on the SIDE/OUTSIDE of the element.
Said another way, if mesh support is not on the correct side for the way your coach is plumbed, DON'T USE IT. It could be correct in all other aspects but result in a "dusted engine" for you.
