I have also read about pulling 2 fuses before disconnecting the battery cables, is that true on this old of a coach? Thanks in advance, scott.

If you have a 1997 Cummins you have a P-Pump system which is fully mechanical. You can tell b/c the pump looks like a mini inline 6 cylinder sitting on the top right (as you are facing the pulley assembly, belts, etc.). The CAPs has a rectangular box on top so it's easy to spot the difference.
The CAPS failures are major headaches due to the high chance of a misdiagnosis. Could be the pump, could be just a subcomponent of the pump, could be the ECM. Either way, you are stuck, need a tow, then wait for parts and service. 4 days and $12k later you are back on the road and want to plot revenge on cummins and the epa.
People with the CAPS tend to add the FASS fuel system to lower the likelyhood of a injector failure. The lift pump only pressurizes the system for 30 seconds and then the vacuum from the injection pump keeps the fuel moving i guess. The FASS is constant 14-18 PSI any time the engine is running. It is constantly sending excess fuel back to the tank thru a return line.
The Titanium or signature series...cant remember the exact name has it's own return line. the IND or semi series FASS uses the existing OEM injector return line. Be sure and know which one fits your engine/chassis. FASS will be able to tell you over email or phone. Dont assume that just bc you want your own return line you can simply add the titanium version.
I have heard of FASS systems going on P-Pump version but havent actually seen it.
I wanted the 1997 version of my coach (which i didnt get) specifically bc I wanted mechanical injection. When I was looking though some owners did complain about the old throttle systems from the time period....king electric maybe? Anyway, i think one owner told me he replaced his electric throttle with an air one for reliability.
