Fuel/Water Seperator

Sorry everyone, I'm going a little nuts with the all the manuals... and tables... and schedules...

I think I've got all the maintenance items on my spreadsheet except for the fuel/water separator filter. I'm having trouble finding the recommended change interval on that.

Freightliner says "See the applicable engine operation and maintenance manual for fuel/water separator element replacing intervals." I checked the Cummins book and could not find any schedules for it. I could have missed it, but I really tried to find it.

Does anyone have factual information for the schedule on this?

Thanks for the help!

On all my current and past diesels, I have never gone over 30K and if any significant amount of water was ever present then the separator got changed right away. Some folks do it every oil change so you will get several opinions.

I will add that as all the literature suggest you should visually check for water daily however not many seem to do. I check the day and day after buying new fuel but not daily. I depend on the sensor for the balance of the time.

It is an easy (fairly easy) filter to change if you have a spare bowl and sensor, otherwise it takes a bit longer

Thank you Milford 47 for responding.

I was hoping that someone might have the owners manual and be able to give me the page number or a screen shot of the schedule. I'm not sure if I should change every year, every other year???

I've got the answer for the fuel filter, just not sure what the MFG says on the water separator.

If you want to play it safe then I would change the separator at each oil change just like both fuel filters. Pretty cheap filter so not a lot of bucks.

That would make it 15K or one year
