How many miles on your 5.9 Cummins
I purchased a 2007 Dodge SLT 3500 Megacab 4x4 with 5.9 Cummins with 160,000 miles, well maintained and clean all round. A mechanic friend who has a newer model told me if i maintain this vehicle and 5.9 properly it will last for at least twice the current mileage ?? I find that almost incredible.
Anyone have one of these vehicles with 300,000 miles - 500,000km + ?
This is just out of interest and I probably will never hit that mark.

Go to Turbo Diesel Register .com. Several of the poster there have vehicles with over 100,000 miles on them. They hand out mileage plates for 100,000 miles, 200,000 miles and 300,000 miles routinely every quarter. Cummins even has the same mileage plates and ask users to send in this information to them. The Cummins engine is design for initial overhaul between 400,000 and 500,000 miles. Must trucks will rust away before that happens.
One user of the 6.7L Cummins engine with the 68RFE auto trans in a 2007.5 truck parted out the components of his truck at 400,000 miles. Engine was still usable, transmission and torque convert had failed in the truck if I remembered correctly.
So yes they are that good.

The Cummins 5.9L was the reason I purchased my 2007 Dodge Ram 3500 when we hit the road FT.
I ordered it in late 06 so that it would have the 5.9L.
NEVER be the beta tester for new engine .......... which proved problematic the first few years wit EGR, VGT and software issues
That 5.9L is a good, strong, reliable motor that just flat out PULLS
And 10 yrs later, 150K it STILL puts a smile on my face as it tows my 14K fiver up 7% grades in cruise at 62 mph OD w/o a whimper.
Love my 'Tractor Motor'..........and the wrapper in came in ----well it grew on me

Our '03 Dodge 3500, Crew, DRW, 4x4 is just a mileage princess with "only" 145,000 miles...but here's the "Club":
http://www.cumminshighmileageclub.com/truck/search
Our last truck ('91 F350 w/ 7.3L IH) was still running like a top when sold at 215,000miles, so since the 5.9L Cummins reportedly has 1/2 the moving parts of the V8 Diesels, have no doubt that 200K-300K will be no problem for the Cummins.
And like the Ford, expect the truck will start having issues long before the engine (filter and oil changes mandatory of course).
Safe travels

My 1996 Ram with the Cummins is still on the road towing. I just left my trailer in Oklahoma and drove to Minnesota for Thanksgiving and the odometer hit 304,000 on the way. It still does not use any oil and gave me about 20 mpg running 75 mph. These engines are good for 500,000 miles before thinking of rebuilding under normal circumstances.

Hey you 5.9'ers out there;
Looking for Cummins/factory information source that will give me the actual rpm parameters; power band, governed top end, and torque for my MH turbo Cummins. Particularly interested in governed peak RPM. Oh I know I could just hold the peddle to the floor and read the tack, but is that what the Dr. ordered??

I have a 5.9 with 205,000 miles. It pushes a motor home and tow that weight approximately 27,000 lbs.
I change the oil every 6,000 miles and have yet to add any oil before the change. I plan to keep it another 200,000 miles. By then I'll be 90 years old and will have gotten my moneys worth.

Try the Cummins Quickserve website. Sign up for a free account, input your engine serial number, and you will have access to all the service manuals, owners manuals... everything. What you are looking for should be in there somewhere...

200,000......it is now in a Diesel Specialty shop getting a "refresh"......New transmission, transfer case, torque converter, swash plate, front end suspension bushings, three new radiators, front and rear main seals on the engine. Also having a BD exhaust brake installed.
Truck still runs great with no obvious issues. I just wanted a "built", Tow/Haul transmission. But like always, when we started to dig in we found all these other things that were on their last legs. The output shaft of the transmission has a drain hole where it couples with the transfer case. This drain was blocked with sand and other grit. This cause a hole to rot right through the transfercase. And one of the bolts that holds the t case to the transmission rotted right out of the case.
The radiators all had seen better days. But most was my fault as I had never serviced them in 200K miles.
Front suspension bushings was just an inexpensive fix as the factory were hard and distorted.
A couple months ago I replaced every single part in the brake systems ....rotors, calipers, pads, e-brake pads......
Hopefully after nearly $20K in upgrades I'm ready for another 200K! In my way of thinking, much better than spending $60-$70k on a new truck and I don't have to deal with DEF and particulate filters etc.

When I bought my '03 the recommendation for overhaul was at 400,000 miles. Traded mine in with 225,000. Only reason I traded it was the body and accessories were falling apart. Engine and transmission were in fine, still towed 11,000 pound 5th wheel with ease.

My 01 has 349,000 miles on it, ordered it new. Selling it to my brother in law next week and picking up my new 2017 on Thursday. So goodbye ol' faithful girl of 16 years and many happy and fun miles and hello new hot babe. Yes I am dumping the old girl that I have had a great and fruitful relationship with for over 16 years for a new younger model just like my wife thought I would.
