Coma, not to rain on your parade, but any agitated debris in the fuel storage cannot get into your vehicle fuel tank. Each dispenser has its own fuel filter for each product, located in the dispenser cabinet, for gasoline. Diesel may have the filter on the inside, or in many cases, just outside the dispenser cabinet.
They even make a gasoline filter with a "starch" that will expand and stop flow if water is present. Not sure if diesel filters have that.
And, when I was a kid, I remember Amoco advertising the "Final Filter" that was inline on the hose. I don't know if they, or any other gas station, in the early '60's had filters in the dispenser cabinets. Maybe, back in the day, any agitated debris wound up in the car, causing mischief, hence the caution we use today.

No worries.
Knocks on wood
I'm sure your right, a fueling problem at a station would drive commercial business away quickly. I've fueled at a place that was getting fuel once and had no trouble. If I have choice I'd rather not. Maybe I've just been lucky but I've not had a fuel problem. I had an AquaHot filter plug with algae that had shed from biocide use. I cant even get myself to fuel the pickup at mom and pop place with gas.
Perhaps I'm an old dog that can't learn new tricks.

Many of you state you have two fuel filters. On my 2003 Dutch Star, 350 ISC 8.3, I can only find one. And believe me I've looked. What am I missing?? The one I have found is the FS 1022.

Mike, what chassis do you have? call the chassis manufacture assuming its Freightliner or Spartan and ask them where its located, unless some one chimes in that is more familiar. The FS1022 is the 2nd filter, there should be another somewhere. Post back what you find. From what I have read they are usually under the coach along the frame, if you decide to go hunting just do it safely with jack stands to support the coach.
good luck

I have a 350 ISC also. I have two filters, both Fleetguard. The first is a 10 micron filter/water separator and the second is a 10 micron. I have experienced problems before with the second filter being a 2 micron filter -- it clogged very quickly and caused problems when the engine needed extra fuel. Talked with Cummins and they said that the engine was being starved for fuel with the 2 micron filter and they told me that they recommended to use 2 -- 10 micron filters. That is what I have done since and have never had another problem.

That's my experience. I have several 2 micron filters to use so I'll change them more often.

Been seeing this filter system on medium and heavy engines for several years with excellent results, now standard equipment on most trucks.
http://davco.com
I'm planning on installing one in place of the primary and using a diverter cap on the engine mounted filter head.
As the filter is restricted, the fuel level rises in the bowel to new unused filter media. Once the bowel is full the filter is at capacity and is very easy to replace.

I always buy Fleetguard filters, I figure the Cummins engineers know a lot more than I about keeping fuel flowing properly.
On the clean fuel issue; that's why I always refuel at Flying J or other major truck stops. Sure the price is more, but I've never bought dirty fuel either. If one of those major stations every sold dirty fuel their semi parking lot would be empty quickly.

This.^
I simply call up Spartan (RVChassisParts) and order the service kit. I see no sense in trying to second guess the people who designed these engines.

I also buy nothing but the Fleetguard Filters. They are designed for the Cummins and if there were ever a warranty issue they can't deny me for an aftermarket filter.
There is also a Cummins App where you can input your engine serial # and it willl tell you what your engine is and give you all the filter and parts info for your particular engine.
