Lower Radiator hose

I was under my motorhome today and was doing a visual on everything. When I looked at the coolant lines, I followed the lower radiator hose to the engine. It is rubber for about 2 feet then runs into a metal cylinder that looks like a small muffler.

Any idea what it is?

I will try to get pictures tomorrow.

Sounds like the transmission cooler.

It is a 2004 workhorse r20 with a cummins ISL 400.

I dont think it is a transmission cooler. The longer louder hose goes into it and a solid line comes out and goes to the engine.

Never heard of a Workhorse chassis with a 400 Cummins. Workhorse chassis had GM big block engines and have been out of the RV business for over 10 rears.

Workhorse made many R20 diesel pusher chassis in the early 2000 for different coach manufacturers. I thought this was common knowledge on RV forums.

Rexhall bought pusher chassis from just about anyone who sold them, Freightliner, Spartan, and Workhorse to name a few.

And know, I do not know where this hose goes, maybe to an oil cooler?

I would think the metal pipe is just an extension of the radiator hose. Rubber on one end and rubber on the other end

Since the Workhorse DP chassis is pretty rare, it would be a good idea to post a picture of the hose you are referring to.

X3! Since the lower radiator hose is the suction side of the water pump, the metal portion presents less chance of a very long hose collapsing from the suction.
