mechanic says...
i am looking for another truck...dodge diesel dually 1 ton..6.7l 6 spd 4.10 rear.
a retired mechanic friend says if you are concerned with the whole "def" issue,
get a 2016 forward as most of the problems have been corrected by then.
so....do you folks agree with this statement ?
thanks in advance...best forum out there is irv2

Well, apparently my truck didn't get the memo. I have a monstrous Kubota ag tractor w/ DEF. No problems. No problems on my 8.9 in the MH. Had a 2008 Cummins and a 2016. No problems. My 2019 is in for the sixth time for the SAME DEF issue. RAM dealer says that they are seeing a lot of them.

Go to TURBO DIESL REGISTER. COM and ask there. This is a dedicated Cummins/Ram truck forum. Since the very first 12V Cummins engine was put into a Dodge pick-up truck. Serval poster on this site are former Ram/Dodge employees or are connected to the Cummins engines.

Actually, from every thing I've read the problem is from 2016 and newer. In 2016, the EPA mandated that the DEF system not only verify the level of DEF, but the quality as well. Those seem to be where the majority of problems lie, especially in the motorhome and truck chassis.

This^^ would be my general observation as well, but the mechanic's opinion is based upon pick up truck installations, not large RVs. The DEF system is installed by the chassis manufacturers and so are different in layout and component manufactures form each other. In pick ups, that may play a large part in the mechanic's experience and opinion. The failure/trouble rate in RV DEF systems has increased greatly in post-2016 systems, but the rate in pick up trucks is something that needs to be researched separately.
