Need help quick - Stuck at the Mex border
Hi, I need help quickly, my engine stalled at the border and I am stuck here on the Mexican side near Laredo Texas at Colombia crossing. Engine is a Cummins ISB 5.9 2003, 300 hp.
Engine stopped suddenly without any warning and would not start again. It crank but no start. The mechanic sent some Ether in the air filter and the engine started and ran for 5 second.
I have a code with my Scangauge D and it says 2003 15 127. I checked on the internet and found code P015 to be the camshaft sensor but I am not sure. We removed the sensor after many hours trying to undo the rusted bolt and can only check for parts on Monday.
Any idea, comments, recommandation? Covid 19 and Easter makes thing very hard to cope with this situation, thanks for your help.

If it started on ether, sounds like a fueling issue. Fuel filter or lift pump were common 2003 dodge ram with iSB issues.

Can you take that sensor out and try to clean it, and put it back in and see if it will start? The Mexican auto parts stores have a good selection of parts, and may have that sensor, if not know where you can find it! Good luck! Rail!

Any luck yet? I would say fuel issue but certainly could be sensor. Did it act up before that? Any issues prior to getting to the border?

Also check for camshaft sensor wiring issues I've seen wires frayed shorting out to the sensor. Follow the wire from the sensorer as far as you can.

Crankshaft or cam sensor, 3408529, 4921864,5093101AA,4921864 AND 3408529.Also DORMAN 917-735.
Any of those cross reference for the 5.9

Two years ago I had a cam sensor go bad on 2010 ISC. It never shutdown engine, only got alarm and check engine light. I drove it for 50+ miles until I could get it to Cummins for repair.

If it’s starts and runs on either sounds like fuel . Ran mine out once and ended up having to put about 5 psi on the main tank and bleed about every line on it. Have someone check the fuel shut down solenoid as well

DO NOT spray starting fluid into the intake!!! Cummins uses a grid heater in the intake manifold, the starting fluid can cause an explosion in the intake manifold and cause mechanical damage.

Have you ever seen that happen ?
Maybe some flamed back out the intake but an explosion causing mechanical damage ?

Too late, they already did, and it just ran long enough to burn up the either. No problems.
Wonder what happened. I hope they are safely on the way. Just nice to hear back.

No, I've never seen it nor heard of it happening. Cummins publishes that warning in every owners manual, I just passed it along.
