Thanks for your answer. The engine did not show any sign before it shut down. It just quit, no warning, no check engine, no problem with power. I will check a few more things today. The mechanic removed the sensor and will try to get one Monday, but I will check too.

It is pretty quiet here, just truck passing along, no store near. I am on the Mexican side of the border.

I have seen it happen although not on the 5.9 most of what I worked on was larger I worked on trucks for 40 years and seen it several times, Mostly what it does is blows the gaskets out from the intake manifold, oil pan, valve covers, and can blow the front and rear main seal out depending on how much either was used If a preheated engine needed some assist the power wire had to be disconnected to the heater grid. same with engines with glow plugs.

I have seen it happen. It was in a smaller Cummins where they sprayed either in the intake, and quite a bit I may ad and it went boom and some pretty.nice flames came out the intake. The damage caused the valve seats to come out and fall on top of piston on one or 2 cylinders and that was the end, loud pounding when it did fire up. This was a swirl chamber not direct injection engine. So yes it can happen, very rare though I think.
