I too and getting ready to replace a VP44 buried behind the air compressor. I'm wondering if there were any gaskets you needed to replace in the compressor when you removed the head.

I just replaced my vp44 ,I just removed the water coolant line to the the air compressor and that gave me enough room to remove and replace the vp44.
