Need oil advice
I have a 2008 Winnebago Tour 40TD. It has the 8.9L Cummins, 400 HP and 1250 ft lbs torque. I bought it a year ago with 90,200 miles on it. I checked the oil three days ago and it is on the “ADD” line. When I bought it, they changed the oil and filter, but nothing is on the service sheet other than it was changed. No info on brand of oil, synthetic or natural, or viscosity. I called the dealer, and they are out of business. This oil has about 7,000 miles on it. I’m about to leave on a trip of about 4 or 5 thousand miles but won’t leave unless it is full of oil. I’ve been told that you can’t mix synthetic with natural oil, but Rotella semi-synthetic will blend. Now that’s nice, but what viscosity? Any ideas? I called a couple of truck service places and decided to change the oil, but they don’t do motorhomes!

Follow what Cummins says to use for this engine (approved oils and their specifics like viscosity). Don't second guess any of this. Cummins will have a specification that needs to be met.

If it was mine, I'd change the oil & filter.
I as well as many others here use Shell Rotella T4 15W40.

I agree, change the oil and filter.
Shell Rotella T and Chevron Delo 400 15-40 are both pretty universally available and approved for your engine.

If you go n the Cummins Quikserv website you should be able to get your engine build information. On my 2015 coach, the ISL with the large pan and stiffener plate holds 26 qts including the filter per Cummins. This puts the oil above the full mark on the dipstick when changed and it is this dipstick location I use as the full mark.
I use Shell Rotella T-6 15W40 in my motor along with the LF14009NN oil filter, which has their best filter media.

Your engine probably calls for 15w40 heavy duty diesel oil. With the unknowns I personally would just change the oil that way you know for sure what you have.
I used this:
https://www.amazon.com/Rotella-55005...hlbWF0aWM&th=1
The is a personal choice to go full Synthetic Rotella T6 and probably not necessary since I will likely change oil every year anyway. I know that my Coach engine had T4 Rotella before the oil change. T5 Rotella is the blend. My coach uses a total of 9 gallons of oil 1.5 gallons 6 Qt. for the generator and the rest 7.5 gallons 30Qt. for the Engine. Unfortunately, nailing down the exact volume of oil is difficult both Cumins and Spartan hah guidance that says theoil volume can be anywhere between 24 and 30 Qt.
Walmart does carry the Shell T4 T5 and T6 15w40 oil.

If it were mine I would change the oil and filter. I use Shell Rotella T4 10W40.
As others have indicated the dipstick markings may not be correct for your application. Many of us cannot rely on the dipstick to be accurate. Call Cummins and find out the capacity of your engine. Add that much oil, run the engine for a couple minutes, let it set for 30 minutes, and then check the dipstick. That will be the level you should shoot for in the future. Be mindful that most service centers pump their oil from a 55 gal drum and just fill the crankcase to the full level on the dipstick.
If I fill my ISC 350 to the dipstick full mark it will blow oil out the breather tube and cover the front of my towed until it reaches the "happy level"!
I repeat, call Cummins with your engine serial number to find out the recommended oil quantity.

Also, pre-fill the filter. You can get the service manual procedure from Quikserv with all the relevant torque values.
I made a little stand to hold my filter vertically and put the removed filter in it and then the new filter because the filter holds nearly a gallon of oil so it’s heavy when laying on your back. The stand also makes it easier to pre-fill.

I want to change oil and filter, but I've called every truck service place within 50 miles and no one will change oil on a motorhome. I'm 82 years old with bad knees and, after doing my own services all my life, I cannot handle doing this one. One of the truck service places suggested topping off with Rotella T6 and I bought a gallon from Walmart. Another said it would "probably" be OK to drive it 100 miles to Oklahoma City to get it changed. I don't like the word "probably" since that is not an assurance.
So, another stupid question: where do I find the engine serial number? When it was serviced 7,000 miles ago it took two grown men to move the sleep number bed so they could get to the engine.
Meanwhile, unless you guys think it is a bad idea, my plan is to add the T6 and find a place in Oklahoma City that will do the service.

Engine SN is likely on a plate on top of the engine. Since My motorhome has a side radiator, I was able to reach in and snap the photo below.
Have you tried Loves for an oil change? The nearest to you in Apache OK that does this is in
Hinton , OK I-40 exit 101
4400 N Broadway, Hinton , OK 73047
I think they do oil changes for RVs I would call first

Contrary to what other said, I would not worry about brand and simple add one of the name brand diesel rated 15-40 oils. I challenge you to find any reputable source that indicates mixing brands may damage your engine. (Makers of full synthetic oils suggest that adding non-synthetic oils restricts you from using the synthetic oil change interval). I have worked around heaving diesel engines for most of my 81 years and it is VERY common to ignore brands when adding oil.
Note you will be adding a quart or two to a system that contains about 5 gallons or 20 quarts.

Well, I've decided to do both. I added three quarts of Rotella T6 and I'm going to take it to Rush Truck place in Oklahoma City next week. I appreciate all t he help. I've never been disappoint by any of the responses I've received on this forum. It just hurts to think about buying 7 gallons of T6.
