Oil analysis ..Thoughts?

Just got Back my recent Blackstone report.. Wondering thoughts on my Silicon levels...Blackstone does not believe it is dirt ..they believe it is in the oil.. Either anti foam or silicone gasket...based on the fact there are no wear metals or high aluminum In analysis..

Thoughts opinions

The oil manufacturer should have an virgin analysis……if not then have one done to confirm the silicon content. Cheaper than an oil change. FWIW I've started to include TAN as part of my test. It give me sense of margin, even if I change it yearly.

Agree. I like the TAN result since we are putting on fewer miles each year.

I would think Blackstone has the virgin oil silicone level analysis for your oil product.

If not, Coma has great advice.

My engine yields 3 parts Silicon in multiple analysis from Blackstone. I use Delo 400 15W-40.

Here is a good discussion about TAN (Total Acid Number) and TBN (Total Base Number) and other Oil chemistry.

On edit: I see that I have misspoken. It is TBN that I get checked.

Oh well, I echoed your comment and had my last analysis in front of me.

So, I had two chances not to fail......but did anyway.

Yes, I guess it is 3 ppm. The normal is 5. Mine routinely is 3 at 96,000 miles.
