Oil Filter Change Every Oil Change
If you had only driven 1500 miles over the last year, would you change the oil filter with the oil change or wait till the next oil change to replace the oil filter. I was discussing this with another Class A owner and he told me that he only changes the oil filter every other oil change regardless of mileage of which he stated is usually less than 2500 miles.

You'll leave up to , two quarts of used oil in the engine ( filter capacity ) .
Yes the filter probably has life left but for the cost of the filter , I change mine every time .

I'm sure the paper inside (making an assumption of paper elements) itself over time could deteriorate and contain contaminates. I would imagine an oil change you would want fresh oil in these components.

I have thought about my generator leaving the filter in and changing every two years. I'm lucky if I put 25 hours on the generator every two years. But the real reason I woul like to skip changing the filter is it make a big mess because how the cabinet is made.
I think last year I put 12 hours on the generator.

The real question is should you even bother changing the oil at all with such little mileage? Send an oil sample out for testing and go from there.
If you do decide to change the oil, change the filter. In fact, if I was running the same oil for multiple years with any real mileage on it, I'd consider swapping just the filter.

I would not change the oil or the filter with only 1,500 miles of use.

When I worked at a Cadillac / Oldsmobile dealership we had a customer buy a new 1971 Delta 88 with a 350 C.I. engine. He drove 80 miles each way to work every day. When he came for his first oil change at just over 2000 miles he insisted we change the engine oil filter and add one quart of oil. Against my better judgement I did what the customer wanted. From that point on he never changed the engine oil but was always at the dealership at close to the 2000 mile mark to have the filter changed and a quart of oil added.
He traded the car back in with over 100,000 miles on it but there was a small seepage around both rocker covers and I got the job order to replace the rocker cover gaskets. I wasn't sure what I was going to see knowing the oil change history but when I pulled the covers I was totally amazed how clean the cylinder head, push rods, rocker arms and the inside of the rocker covers were.
If I was going to skimp on anything it would be the oil and not the filter.
I still change my engine oil and replace the oil filter at each oil change when it's time though.
One of my first cars was a 1952 Ford 239 C.I. Flathead V-8. This engine didn't have an oil filter. In less than 1000 miles the oil looked black. I found a kit made for the Ford Flathead engine in a catalog put out by a company called J.C. Whitney to add a filter to the oiling system. I bought and installed the kit and the oil after 1000 miles looked almost like you'd just poured it out of the can.

If you are looking to save money on oil changes the best way I found was buying Oil filters from Cummins when they are on sale. This usually happens between Black Friday and Christmas and you usually can save 20%. Last year I bought 2 complete set of filters so I would have inventory should one year go by and I miss the sale.

Here's an interesting video showing that some big rig companies essentially never change their oil, but use a "bypass" filter system instead.
