ALL DEF is manufactured to the same specifications by law, so buy the cheapest you can find. It will be the same as the most expensive brand you can find. You can get the Walmart house brand in the store for around $9.00 for 2 1/2 gal.
Buying DEF at sale price is all good but many times "SALE" can relate to "liquidating older inventory". Let us not forget that DEF fluid has a shelf life and that shelf life starts the day it is manufactured and can be greatly effected by how it is stored. BE CAREFUL! Adding old DEF fluid to your tank can cause you some expensive misery. Determining manufacture date can be be difficult since you won't see that information readily printed on the box. Look for a printed multi-digit code on the box and check online to determine the breakdown of that code. The code will tell you which plant and date of manufacture. One last thought... You might think that buying DEF from the pump at a truck stop would be a good idea since the product is turned over rapidly and that might be true. The problem could be how they store it. Many DEF storage tanks at truck stops are above ground. The fluid is delivered in large totes which many times sit above ground exposed to sunlight and temperature.
Here is the code breakdown for Peak Blue Def:
Typical code example: GA153590089
GA= The plant of manufacture
15= The year of manufacture +1 (in this case 2014)
359= Deduct 359 from 365 (days in year) which equals 6. So it was manufactured the 6th day of 2014.
90089: batch number
YOUR GUESS IS AS GOOD AS MINE AS TO WHY THEY CODE IT LIKE THIS
If you are referencing Walmart's Supertech brand, I have no information for you. If that's the brand you want to purchase, I would advise contacting WalMart to obtain production date prior to purchase. FYI... I purchase Peak Blue Def from Walmart since I have never found this product older than 60 days from production. There are WalMart stores in almost every city and all of their stores and warehouses are air conditioned.
