Thanks Skip
I may dig into the turbo in the future. Too frustrated right now. But I am going to install a EGT gage and keep temperature down in the meantime.

EGT gauge a great idea .
Some high temp lube for the wastegate mechanism ( like Pac Brake Lube ) may help the situation too .

If you haven't adjusted the fuel pump to add power, any additional boost you get from a permanently closed wastegate will not likely increase EGT, nor will you likely see excessive boost pressure... You'll just be putting more air into each combustion event than is necessary. You should see about 22-24psi max boost with a properly functioning wastegate. Your turbo is capable of producing over 35 psi, but you don't want to go there with stock head gasket and bolts... and even if you did that, it's still not a great idea for an RV application.
If you stay below 30psi, you should be fine. I've been running our B-series 5.9-230hp with increased fuel at 30 or 32psi max for the last 60k miles with no issues related to the increased boost (that I know of - knock on wood). If you're gate was crusted up and stuck open, when you banged it closed it's possible it didn't go all the way closed anyways and is leaking slightly. The older turbos on the 5.9's did not even have a wastegate, though they suffered from increased turbo lag.
cheers

I have an EGT gage coming next week. Before extending the cable for permanent installation I will have my wife go back and read it when going uphill. I suspect it doesn't get that hot.
Maybe I can get some grease on the joint using my finger. Can't spray anything up, or down that area. Extremely confined!
Thanks for your help.

Very interesting, thanks. Just the information I need. So far we saw 21 psi max going up a fairly steep grade. However I'll put the boost gage back on (at the disconnected wastegate fitting) and monitor it as we go on a long trip soon NY-FL. Also an EGT. Don't want further trouble!
